Hey there,
At a US-car event in Germany I completely fell in love with the K1500 model. I intend to buy one, just need more information beforehand.
Would be grateful for any information /link on that model. Would you recommend it? Are there any faults or is there anything I need to pay attention to when buying???
Cheers
Ina

Welcome to chevytalk. To clarify the k1500 model spans a number of years. I am going to take a leap and assume you were looking at a new model? If so this would be the wrong area for that. We only cover 88 to 98 ish, some carry over to 02 in the HD stuff.
Otherwise what kind of info are you looking for?

Well the 95 is going to be a funny year and add that with the 6.5 parts will be harder to come by and I am guessing even worse given your location. Over all in my opinion these are some of the best trucks ever built. The 5.7 petrol is going to preferred over the diesel but being in Europe I can see why it is. I am not as familiar with the 6.5 so I wont comment, I will let others comment on that but from what I understand the transmission is going to be special to that one year and the 6.5 is going to have a lot more expensive parts. The motor itself mechanically is solid but fuel delivery and injection I think is the issue.
Some here complain about the 95 up interior being a little more brittle. I agree to a point but I still personally prefer the 95 up interior.
The rear end may be a posi traction called the Gov lock. This can be confirmed by looking in the glove box and looking for the G80 code. They are weak units and are nick named the gov bomb. It is a mechanical locker and doesn't take a lot to kill them. The one in my 98 is no longer a locker as it stripped some teeth but is at least intact and not about to blow up.
I guess I am just warning you that although these are awesome trucks, generally the 95 is less desirable because it was a transition year with a lot of one year run parts as well the 6.5 may make maintenance more expensive. But I am not speaking from personal experience but what I have gathered from others here so hopefully someone chimes in and sets me strait.
