I got a complete set of window channels (thanks for the tip, Jens!), and gaskets for the vent windows. All my parts are original from '58 so you can imagine their condition.
Anyway, I'll need to remove the windows (front doors and rear quarters) to replace the channels and the vent window gaskets. Does anyone have any tips or a proven procedure to remove the windows, replace the channels, and/or replace the vent window seals?
Any tips--even small ones--are really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
BTW: I picked up a bunch of parts at The Car and Truck Shop in Orange, CA today, as I'm in SoCal for a few days on business/pleasure. Nice showroom and lots of parts in stock. If you're passing through Orange County sometime, you should check them out.

get a factory manual for procedures to remove/replace the glasses.
i have found, for me,on the front door,it is easier to loosen the rear channel and with the window down, loosen and remove the vent window assembly. the the door glass comes out easy.
the fuzzies and channels are a pain to replace, especially since i reuse the old holes for the staples.
the vent windows will have to be disassembled to replace the rubbers. push down on the vent window (after it is out of the door)to push it into the lower rubber and the short pivot on top will come below the rubber allowing you to remove the glass from the frame.
the flat window channel will have to be removed to get at the pegs holding the rubber in the frame.
it is fairly straightforward.
a factory manual is very handy to aid in removing/replacing the glass assemblys.
the rear windows will most likely come out by removing one of the channels. remove as few as possible to aid in realigning later.if replacing the channels, use prebent channels if availeable. i did not on my 56 and it was timeconsuming to bent them correctly.

Thanks! I'm on the road now so I don't have access to my shop or assembly manuals, so I'll check them out when I get home.
This is one of the jobs I've been dreading for years, so let's see how it goes. Thanks so much for the tips!

Hi 427, I just checked the shop manuals and you're right, all the details are there. I've always referred to the manual for the mechanical stuff, and I forgot that it also has a body section ( ). Thanks for the advice!

Hi 427, I was able to remove the front door windows and channels fairly easily. First door took a while, second door done in 45 minutes. Thanks for the tips!
Did you replace the vent window seals (aka the "J" seals on the '58)? Is there a trick to installing the new ones? From my view, it looks like I'll have to drill out some rivets to disassemble the entire vent window frame so that I can slide the "J" seals into place, but wanted to know if that's the best way to do it. Any thoughts or experience on this?
Thanks!
Helder
