My 65 has been parked for over a month since I moved, and keep it in a RV area on the side of the house.
Last night it was decent out, not so brutal hot anyways, so I drove the 65 to Wal Mart to get her fluids pumping, battery charged, etc.
I parked on the far end (nobody was parked out that way), under a bright parking lot light to check the oil, as I had just topped it off, to let it sit and recheck after leaving the store.
I was in the store less than 10 minutes and came out to see someone walking around my truck, when he saw me he moved away to the cart return and had his arms crossed.
As I got closer he started asking if it was my truck, "my aunt had one, only it came factory with bucket seats and floor shifter"
I made very little small talk as I was kinda pissed, all the sudden a 90's Mustang GT pulls up fast, and the guy hops in the passenger's seat, and they take off fast.
I suspect he was looking to steal gasoline, or battery, etc.
I've been robbed of a brand new battery years ago, so since then have set up a chain and padlock preventing the hood handle from being pulled forward.
Last summer, I bought a locking gas cap.
So, he/they thought wrong!
Also, when I approached with what I would guess a pissed look on my face, he seemed to get nervous as I got closer, and was stuttering telling me about his "aunts" pickup and "wondering if it was hers?"
So, even under a well lit light, people will "try" to get your stuff.

Of course, it could have been a innocent situation, and the guy was really "admiring" the 65, either way I'm glad the doors were locked, hood locked, fuel tank locked!

he moved away as you approched.. dead giveaway that he-they were up to no good. they took off in a hurry.. another dead giveaway. maybe its just where i live, but when i walk up and someone is checking out my ride they usualy stick around and compliment. normaly wondering what year or engine is in it. i have a locking gas cap, chained hood, and such to keep the honest people honest.

If they were honest people you wouldn't have to do anything to keep them honest; it's the lazy thieves you're protecting it from!

That's right!! If it was innocent, they would have hung around to talk shop. Glad nothing was taken or damaged.

Guys just remember, it's ridiculously easy to open the vent windows on these trucks since the latch doesn't have a positive locking mechanism. I won't name the tool I use to open them, though it's an automotive tool that was designed with a different purpose in mind.

Better than nothing for the side vent windows.
