Owner's manual calls for AC44 plugs, which don't appear to be available any more. 327/300, Carter AFB, combination of city and highway driving. I'd like to find a resistor plug but can live without it if I need to. Can anyone here give me a recommendation? Thanks

Had the same dilemma. Found NOS AC44s on Ebay.

I would use the available R45 which is one heat range hotter than the 44. The R stands for "resistor" (noise suppression).

Thanks. I was surprised to learn that Summit Racing still sells these, so I've ordered a set.
I also understand (from Big Dave, over on Impalas.net) that the new AC/Delco R44XLS interchanges with the old AC 44. If it looks like the 45s are burning too hot, or giving me detonation issues, I may try a set of the new 44s.
I appreciate the help!

Watch the 'x' series. They have extended reach. Don't want them to hit the top of the piston!

Yes, after some research I found that out. I was able to find a set of original R44 plugs on Ebay, for which I paid way too much.

I must be fortunate that I can still find Delco R44 and R45 here locally at normal prices. I did recently try Accel shorty plugs for my 12.5 to 1 compression 355 in my 80 Camaro. I also have a set of E3 plugs Im going to try because I run lots of older cylinder heads and always looking for other options even though I always prefer the 44/45s.
