I have been having nothing but trouble with my brakes on my 04 avalanche it seems the anti lock is on all the time????

A friend had trouble with his antilock brakes . Seem like the back brakes were not wanting to help stop any so he just unpluged his under the hood.
He said his GMC Jimmy has good brakes now.
