first im 13 and its my first truck and it s in time and all that but this carb (eldebrock) my frind gave me will not run rite so i took it to the part store and let them look at it and i put the orignal carb that came on it (holly) come to find out is a holly out board motor   and yesterday we called to check on it and he said it (elebrock) need to be rebuild he said the people that had it before me must of caught it on fire   so it needs to be rebuilt so thats my story and im sticking to it ok

Welcome to CT and kudos to you wanting to wrench on your own stuff. Do you know which model Edelbrock you have? Some of the more learned here may have model specific info or recommendations that could be helpful to you.
I'm 49, and four years ago I rebuilt my first carb while a learned friend watched and offered helpful information & advice. If you want to rebuild it yourself, do you have any learned friends or family who can offer assistance when you might like? I'm sure there are plenty of guys here who have rebuilt a carb for the first time with nothing more than the carb and a rebuild kit. Brand specific books and online information/articles are available to give you more info. I've found Holley rebuild articles online and Edelbrock ones are probably out there, too. Rebuild kits for almost any of the major brand carbs (Edelbrock included) are typically available. Once you have your model number you can either visit your local autoparts store, or do a web search at Summit, Jegs, Carbs Unlimited, Carb Connection, and more...
There is a professional carb rebuilder who posts here, occasionally. His name escapes me at this particular moment. I think he may sell rebuild kits, as well.

Carbs can be a tricky thing. The key to a successful rebuild is cleanliness. Anyone can install a kit.
I say go for it. This is the best way to learn. Good luck.

thanx but i live with my grand parents and my g dad rebuilt one a long time ago and its to much to get done by someone else but no im not sure wat model

OK, once you have your carb handy, we should be able to help you find some info on the carb that will help you ID it's model. If the carb was in a fire, one question may be, how bad (hot) was the fire. Are you able to take any photos of the carb and post them here?

Welcome to the site. Is the carb in a truck? I remember moving your post from the 73-87 truck forum.
Look at the front bottom left corner. It should have a stamped number. IE: 1405, 1406, 1407.

The carbs are easy to tune. All you need is a $15 vacuum gauge.
Initial Carb Tuning & Tips from

make sure throttle opens 100%
set idle speed/mixture screws and time engine
adjust idle mixture for highest vacuum reading, reset idle speed

Those are just some examples of the edelbrock model numbers. Most manufacturers stamp, cast or emboss a model number onto each of the carbs they build for later ID.

While you work on your photo... maybe you can tell us a little more about your truck...
what size motor is in it?
Did you try running the Edelbrock on the truck?
If yes, what sort of problems did you notice?

305 yes i did it wont let me pass emisons and if u try passing gear it would staRT MESSING UP and poping and try to shut off

An Edelbrock carburetor is not that hard to rebuild, but I would be concerned about what kind of fire it was in. If it was just a carb fire that was quickly extinguished, it is probably of no consequence. But if it was a serious fire, then it is another matter. So, you had it mounted on your 305. You took it to emissions testing, and it failed, yes?
When you are driving the truck, when it shifts down, it is popping back through the carb and wants to shut down - so it bucks?
Let me know how much of that is correct and anything else you can think to add...
