I have seen at car shows that they make an overflow expansion tank for the radiator out of a Jack Daniels bottle or a soda pop bottle. Anybody have an idea how these work and how to make them?

If all you care about is an overflow tank (some places require it, to keep from having to clean up coolant on their grounds) you can make out of anything and just put a tube into it.

If however, you are trying to make a coolant overflow tank that allows the coolant to be sucked back into the radiator when the motor cools down, you need to have your coolant overflow tank, and a hose that goes all the way to the bottom of the tank. So, when the cooling motor causes the radiator to cool down, therefore causing a suction effect inside the radiator, which causes the puked out coolant to be sucked back into the radiator.
