I think he's asking if a '54 three speed will mate up with a pre-49 bellhousing/motor. No?

The transmission mounting may be a problem as the 53/54 and the 52 have a different mount and location than 51 and earlier. It may be possible to change tail shafts to the earlier model

I have a customer with a '47 that has a bad side cover. Could I use the cover from the '54?

I found a '48 transmission in the archives this afternoon. It is very different than '49-'54.
