Somehow the radio's memory connection is keeping the ignition coil alive after the key is turned off. You probably need a diode in that circuit to isolate the radio keep alive circuit from the ignition.

make sure to wire the radio so that the (+) that runs the radio, not the memory wire, is connected to a terminal that has power only in the RUN position. the memory wire should be connected to full time power.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your suggestion it looks like It already has a small sealed dioade in the fuse box that came already wired to the radio
I had another look today still no clearer anyway I'll keep trying and let you know if I sort it out
Cheers Mark

Are you running a stock ingnition setup? If not what type and where is it wired into?
Are the fuse box and wiring harnesses on both sides of the firewall original? What kind of shape are they in?
Where did you tap the power from, the fuse box spades or splicing a wire?
This is obviously a short, or better defined as a crosswire fron the radio wires to the ignition, just a matter of finding where.

Hi 65 Ragtop,
Originally tried with factory wiring but as the engine bay harness was a bit tired i decided to fit a new American Auto wire engine bay harness with HEI which was rewired to the key switch & fuse box as recommended in drawing.
The fuse box is in reasonable condition and connection plugs look good, connected the radio + through a spade connector directly on the fuse box the + for the memory ran ditectly to main feed on regulator (battery side) have tried a few points for this with same prob's, tried fitting a diaode on the memory + side as Tom suggested but still an issue it's got me stumped.
