Going back to the 50's, it was always an accepted fact that 2 doors were the neat cars, while no one would drive their fathers 4 door anywhere!
I was brought up thinking the 2 door was coooool, while the 4 door was grandpa's car.
It took me over a year to find my 51 2 door, but it was worth the wait.

My father thought the same way but I like both. I've got a 1951 Chevy Styleline Deluxe 4 door though. I always loved old cars and especially Chevy cars. The way I see it is that it is something I can drive for as long as I live because it can function as a family car or as a nice weekend driver.

I used to think that 2 doors were the cats squirrel until I brought home my ole 4 dr and the good looking blonde UPS driver asked if I could uncover it so she could see it. I was almost apologetic saying it was just an old 4 dr. She looks at me and says, "oh, I always had a Lot more fun in the 4 door cars than I ever had in those nasty ol 2 doors."
My conclusion is that when we were kids it made us feel more like a man to drive a two door and more like a married man driving a 4 door. the latter being the last thing we were considering at the time
Today a my 4dht will bring 80% of what a similar 2 door will bring. Or so the experts tell me.
Stan
PS. I had some 2door cars and you know what? My 4door doesn't look any different to me from the drivers seat.

I like the 4doors just because not as many other people have them or will take the time & $ to do much with them. plus we have kids so it makes it like a family project (except the kids don't help with it lol)

For me, as far as the 53 goes,a 4door was the only choice I had.Besides the fact it is a 210 and not a Bel Air(which is thought to be uncool).I had wanted a 53/54 for a while, but , all I could find were rust buckets that required work I was incapable of doing.I asked for advice and I was told to find the car in the best condition that you are able to afford and let that be the guideline. So I found this 53 210 4 door sedan in upstate New York and I bought it.It is an old restore, but,it is almost rust free and runs fairly good.I drive it weekly in the spring through fall and it is fun to drive, once you get used to the quirks.
So do I regret buying it? Sometimes I do,but, the reality is that I only had so much to spend and what I had was not enough to get a cool Bel air 2 door.So I just put up with the snikering at car shows and cruises and when asked "Why did you buy a 4 door?" my answer is....I am not as cool as you.

I use my two door and my convertible to cover up the fact that I'm not cool. In fact, if I were to get any further from cool, I'd have to buy a Vette! In truth, I spent my high school years driving my Dad's 4 door Dodge Aspen, and Chev Celebrity, so I vowed to never own a 4 door of my own! (SUV's don't count!)

funny reading this thread as its almost like a "driving evolution"
when i was young and single all my cars were 2 doors except my lincolin (suicide doors trump any 2 door in coolness )
but what pulled me to my 50 fleetline moredoor was the fact it was a very cool looking 4 door.
so not only could i be driving a cool car but i could load up the wife, kids and dog as well and go cruising in comfort.

In todays world, you ARE the coolest when you are reviving a Chevy that excites you, no matter how many points of entry/exit you may have.
P.S. I do have to add this .... in 1960 I bought a 1956 Chevy Bel Air 4 door sedan. The car had only 12000 miles on it, had a radio delete. Boy, did I get razzed from everyone.
I modified the 265, changed to a solid lifter cam, added the 2 x 4 carbs, did not change heads and regretted that move , added headers, had an adapter made and added a Pontiac 4 speed hydro and 4:11 gears.
At the Friday night "drags" at Kent State University ..... on the boulevard, the razzing quickly stopped.
That was 52 years ago, still makes me smile.

Truth be told, if you put two cars in front of me, one a two door, one a four door, and offered me my choice, I'd taker the two door. Unless the rear doors were suicide, then it would be a tough call.
But, I'd never turn my nose up at a four door. Old equals cool, ANY day of the week.

Funny thing in fact, I was at a small cruise night loaded with muscle cars and a couple old classics and me with my work in progress when more then a couple people mentioned how it it was that I was working on a four door. "everyone one has a two door" they said.
I realy like the look of the 53/54 four doors but the price and the fact that I wanted a family cruiser is what sealed the deal.
I'm just old enough to be of the two doors = cool mindset.

I prefer the 2 dr. Always have since I was a kid. Think it was because when I was 6 or7 me dad used to take me to the jalopy races. I loved that and they were all two doors. Here is my first "car". LOL I was about 8 or 9 then.

Saw a stock looking '53 4 door at a show last year, had no trim at all but a new interior and the car was spotless. The guy had a built 302 (I think) 6 cylinder with a 5 speed behind it. Now that was cool!

It seems to me there are more 4 doors being worked on, at this site, just got me wondering. That was the reason for my initial post on this subject.
