A friend is restoring a '57 4dr ht and he is adding factory power windows. He has the harness, switches, looms, motors, etc. but he is unsure about the holes in the doors and door jams. He knows where they go, but does not know the size or shape of the holes. Can anyone post some pictures and dimensions of a factory pw car? thanks

Go to Ecklers Classic Chevy web-site. ..... Link to Classic Chevy. Put in part number for the power window looms, 35-78. Click on product instructions.

All I get is a run time error and it closes the link.

Don, The link works for me, no problem. Have you had experience using this wire guide/protecter the link shows? Is it really better than the other ways to run the wires?

If you have trouble with the reproduction wire conduits, it could be because they are foreign made, like everything else.

Wow, what a difference! That explains why when I installed mine (repops), I had to hog out the hole a lot more than the template showed. The difference in the bend of the looms is HUGE! Sheesh!

That's because they've been using Chinese protractors to figure out the angle of the curve, and the degree increments are not marked in the correct locations. Go figure!!!

The Chinese use the metric degree system- 0nly 300 degrees to our 360

The average Chinese farmer earns the equivalent of $40 US dollars a month. On the bright side, a production worker earns $44 a month! No wonder all our production is going overseas

Looks like nothing that couldn't be easily fixed with a cutoff wheel in a die grinder making a few pie cuts & then closing the gaps & welding back together. Thank you for the tip, Lee. Wish I had your skills with pictures on the 'puter.

I agree. BUT...... for the prices all these repop parts command, you shouldn't have to do a damned thing to them to get them to fit or work like they are supposed to. Seems like most of the sellers of these parts "play dumb" and tell you what you want to hear about whether or not they are a direct fit. Sorry for the rant, but this kind of crap chaps my a$$ and I don't even own a tri-five!!

Since I have originals it was a no brainer for me to just put the repos aside, but after your comments I did a little more comparison and its really an easy fix. The tube part actually has the right bend to it, its just spot welded in at the wrong angle.

I would cut the hole in the A pillar post and just drill the top screw hole in the door, and with the tube loose on one side just keep trimming a little at a time until it fits right. Keep in mind that the location of the bottom screw makes a big difference also because of the curve in it.

One more thing is the directions from Ecklers is to drill the A pillar holes with 1 1/2 inch drill, but the originals were only 1 3/8 inch. The extra size is probably to give those reproduction conduits more room, but I didn't want that opening any bigger than necessary.

Lots of Masking Tape . I used Right Angle Air Drill, then Grinding Burr, then Hand File. Go slow.
