Any other size GMC v-6 will fit!
If you go to a Chevy bellhousing, most Chevy small or big block will fit.
Yours a 351-C or M?
And,what's wrong with it?
Mike.

Its a M. What manual transmission would be behind it? SM420? Someone didnt check the oil and it through rod at block. Block is no good now.

Shame. The magnum is a hard one to come by and is popular.
I have a 351-C.
I don't know what trans you have, but maybe someone else here can tell you.
Don't junk the 351!You can easily sell the heads for sure as well as other parts.
If it has power steering and mounting brackets, those are hard to find and popular too.
Mike.

I found 351 v6 for $750 in Iowa that has 23,000 original miles on it. I'll have to ask what letter it is though. They quoted me $750 plus $250 to ship to me.

I bought mine 12 years ago,so I can't say if that's a good price or not.
Shipping sounds cheap!Mine weighs about 750 lbs!
I had to build a special engine stand for it to store it on.
There's a big difference in power between the "C" and the "M" 351's.The "M" being much better!

Would anybody know where to get the adapter plate for the Chevy bellhousing if I swap to a 454 carb engine?

I could not find the thread for the adapter plate. Would you happen to have a picture? Also,
if he switches to a Chevy Bell housing why would an adapter plate be needed or is the GMC V-6 transmission different from the Chevy transmission?

I don't have much experience with the V-6 trucks so I am curious!

Well the sm420 was used up to a 1 1/2 ton up to 67. 1968 they started using the sm465. The max GVW rating is 24,000. I assume this is a 1 1/2 ton truck.

Jim,here is the post in the 60/66 forum-
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?...
I'd thought to buy this adapter, but the shipping cost would be too much.I was wrong about the price-It was $275.00.
There are some questions about the large hole in the bellhousing where the trans goes.It seems the GMC has a larger hole than the Chevy, but I haven't measured mine to see.I have both,so I may do that today.
Yes,he can just change to a Chevy bellhousing to use a Chevy engine.

An adapter may not be needed for the manual trans if the Chevy bellhousing fits the GMC manual trans, which I think will fit.In that case, all you need is a Chevy manual bellhousing set-up which are cheap and easy to find.
I will check mine today and make sure it all fits.

O.K.,I measured.
The GMC bellhousing hole is 5,1/8"
The Chevy bellhousing hole is 4,5/8"
So,your GMC trans won't go in the Chevy bellhousing unless the GMC trans is 4,5/8".I don't have a GMC trans to measure.
What I'm measuring is the piece on the front of the trans that the throw-out rides on-The diameter where it bolts to the front of the trans case.
Which means you need the adapter to use the Chevy engine(with auto trans)or change the trans/bellhousing too.

So is the 69 GMC 7500 a 1 1/2 ton truck? The gvw max is 24,000. Gm started using the SM465 in 68 up to a 1 1/2 ton trucks.

Biggest trucks I have are 1 tons.
Those guys on Jolley's site should be able to tell you all you need to know about GMC's
Just don't tell them about the Chevy 454!

Mike,

Thanks for the link. The pictures were helpful and now I also understand why the GMC V-6 dust covers are different from the Chevy's.

The 5 1/8" pilot diameter may be a year issue. I have two bell housings from a 71 and a 72 and both bell housings have the 5 1/8 diameter holes.

Well,my 351 is a 70 or so year model from a tandem axle dump truck.Where I got the 5,1/8" from.
I measured 2 old 4 speeds out back and 2 63/66 bellhousings for the smaller dimension.
Must have been a change in there somewhere.
Mike.

After pulling the oilpan. Also need connecting rods and pistons now also. Found a broken rod and piston skirt in the oil pan.

Can use C connecting rods in a M engine?

I found new rods for a C series, pistons, and camshaft too.
