Can someone help me figure out the backup lights on our 51 chevy styleline deluxe? The lenses that are on there stick straight out and are flat on the end. All of the ones I can find are pointed lenses. I found an original new complete set on eBay and stated for 50 - 52 passenger. The holes in these are no where close to the ones on the car. I cannot find many pictures of backup lights on the internet.

The 1951 Accessories Installation booklet shows some information on the installation for the backup lamps. Here is Keith Hardy's link to the index:

I don't know if that will help or not.

Look at the album I have here, the back up lamps are the original accessories for 1951. Hope the pic helps you.

It has been something that I intend to research at some point, but I believe Canadian built cars may have used a different style of backup light for 1951 and 1952. My '51 was ordered with a single left side light when it was new. You can see it in this picture from 1951. Over the years, I have seen many Canadian built cars up here with the same light, and I have numerous ones from parts cars and flea markets as well. I think it may be because our Chevrolets were built on the same lines as Pontiacs up here. It is possible that the backup light is a piece that was supplied to dealers for Chevrolets as well as Pontiacs to make the part more cost effective to produce for the lower production Pontiac cars. The light is bigger, and the chrome ring is thicker than the lights on the US built cars.
On this picture, you can see how much thicker the light is on the '51...
