My Dad's s10 PU failed inspection here in NJ with a P0134 (bad O2 sensor/connection. Found a frayed wire at connector, hope that's all it is...) Inspector also noted that check engine light not working... sure enough, it doesnt. PO was a mechanic, so I have a suspicion he disconnected it. Can anyone guide how/where he would have done that before I start ripping the dash out? Want to see if still throwing the code, can't without the CE light. I know that autozone will scan for free, but want to fix the light.

Welcome to the site. Check if the cigarette lighter is working. If not, the fuse is blown. I'm not to particularly sure, but these models may have the ECM and SES light on the same circuit. I scanned a truck as late as 06, that had both on the same circuit.

He may have just removed the lightbulb...it's an easy fix...the reason for the removal may be more complicated. If he was a mechanic, he was pretty lazy.
