my 49 styleline's throttle rod which connects gas peddle to throttle linkage snapped. The engine has been replaced with a 235 still using a single barrel carb. I was wondering if anybody was using a different more modern set up (cable set up) instead of using the same ole rod.. It's been hard looking for a original piece and I do not really feel like fabricating one....any suggestions out there.

try owens salvage http://www.owenssalvage.com/ they my have a replacement. I have bought several replacement items from them at reasonable prices. They are located in Texas and you can find listing on internet. I have not tried a newer system but some have, but some fabrication is required, Bill

Was the stock throttle rod configuration from the 49 retained or is this a later installaiton with part of the throttle linkage attached to the fire wall?

I got mine from Owens in Texas. They sent me the rods (both the accelerator pedal rod and the carburetor rod), bell crank, stud for the bell crank, return spring and the little clip that holds the spring to the oil pan flange. It was $45, but that included pulling it off a car, packing it and shipping it to me. And they were fast. I'd recommend them, too.
