Some know that I decided to refresh my belair and tore it apart a short time ago. This evening I drove over to the shop where we're working on it. It seems that the crack heads picked my borrowed shop to hit. What they couldn't carry they tried to mangle. Broke both windshield and back glass where they sat. Took the tools they could carry and everything shiney. threw my front fenders and grill out the window. Fortunately I'd removed the stainless at home and it is still there. Of the things missing I'm most concerned about the rear glass frames that they took. They aren't being reproduced for the 53 hardtop that I know of. I'm over the mad part right now. Just kind of sick at my stomach. If anyone knows of/sees a pair of 53/54 rear window frames for sale(the chrome that fits over the top of the glass) please send me a message or post it here.

Oh no. Very sorry to hear. We were robbed also, so I understand. The fact that they felt the need to do senseless damage infuriates me. Very sad.

Still kinda numb this morning but it's just "stuff".....not my family or their health. I've contacted NCA and a few other places that occasionally have some used parts to try and start replacing what's missing. I'm sure that today I'll discover some things that I was too shocked to see last night. Fortunately the new engine/trans/radiator were not at that location. We were just going to do the body there.

I have a pair of rear quarter window frames with glass. The chrome is less that perfect with some pitting. You're welcome to them for the cost of shipping. They are from a parts car and I was thinking about tossing them as I have no use for them.

Bastards. I had my dd broken into this past spring. they got away with a cheap socket wrench set and about a buck sixty in change. Pissed me off for a week. If they'd touched my '51 it would have turned into a manhunt.

keep your eyes on craigslist...
also whose shop is it? the owner of the building should have insurance that should also cover your losses.

Thieves like that should have their noogies hooked up to 240VAC. I had my freshly restored '54 Chevy 1/2 ton stolen in 1992--never saw it again. But you know what--I recovered from that loss, but the perps who stole my truck are probably in prison or dead by now. Crooks always come to a bad end. Good luck on getting your ride back together. Is there any insurance on your borrowed shop?

Never ever count on this happening, most owners cover the property in their interest and not yours.Any rental I have ever been involved with indicates that you are responsible for your stuff.

I'm afraid that there won't be any insurance coverage on this. It is a friend who loaned me the place and it's more of a barn than a shop. I had to wire it for lights and power myself, before we even started the tear down.

Among the additional items I discovered missing are the vent window assemblies for both doors on the 53 hardtop. I am shopping for these now as well.

They took what they could carry. The vent windows/quarter windows/side glass/rolling batt. charger/30 gal. compressor/misc. tools were taken. They broke the rear glass and windshield and shoved a screwdriver through the radiator as it was still attached to the front clip.

Sounds like a trip up here in the mountains would be good for you now, after all this mess.

Vent window assemblies- does one from a 49-52 Styleline match up to what you need? I've got a spare driver's side assembly. Glass is cracked, but if it's of use to you, it is yours.

that sucks.
keep an eye on your local classifieds.
when i build my vw rabbit a guy i knew had his recaro seats stolen from outta his car on his driveway!!
he kept on all the local vw sites and craigslist/kijiji
well he found his seats, set up a time to meet the guys and showed up........with the cops!!!!
got his seats back and the perps went to jail.
i know its a long shot but it does happen.
what pisses me off more about this story is not the fact they stole your parts and tools but that what they could not take with them they had to vandalize.
that to me makes me think its kids.

Thanks for the offer but unfortunately I understand that the 53/54 HT vent is different from all else. Perhaps someone could correct me if I'm misinformed.

The generosity and thoughtful concern from all on the board has meant a lot to me. I feel compelled to try and give back. I will be going through my "stuff" to see what I've got that you folks might need. I've got a great 53 speedometer and possibly the other gauges, that I won't be using. I might have the original radio from a 53 belair as well. Both came from a car with less than 70,000 miles. I'm looking to see what else is there and I'll let you know.

A friend of mine told me that his dad had some stuff stolen from his place, but he never said anything to anybody about it.
HA -he was at a bar one evening and a guy he sort of knew was drinking there too. The aquaintance asked, rather matter of factly, if he had ever found his stuff....

That sucks. I'd do as others have said and keep an eye on craigslist and your local classifieds. It is a shame that someone would steal but the fact that they tried to destroy anything they couldn't take with them is maddening. I hope you catch them or that you at least find some replacement parts. I wish I could help out but I don't know of any junkyards or distributors that would carry any of that and I don't even have the parts for my car. Anyways, sorry about your car.
