I have a 1988 1 ton 2 wheel drive. And before any one yells wrong forum, it IS this generation body style.
Now to the root of the problem, Lower control arm bushings. Every place I've called says not available. Summit racing thought they had them as a complete kit complete with bar. The ones they sent are just round. Apparently they are held on with u bolts. Mine flatten out between the bushings and use 4 regular bolts to hold it in place. Thought maybe they would interchange, No such luck. Diameter and length appear to be correct. The ones on my truck, the center line is offset from the bolts. the round one would pull the bottom of the wheel in about 3/8 to 1/2 an inch. That aint going to fly.
Any one have a supplier for this stuff? NAPA And I do have good NAPA guys. Can't get it. They thought they could get the whole lower control arm complete, Same problem had a round bar in it.

No one here will yell at you. We know the squarebody BIG trucks were made from 88-91. It's the 88+ form that will take beef with you. They'll talk about TBI but nothing else.
Try checking with www.rockauto.com. If not, call them. They may be able to find what you need. Can you take pictures of the bushings? I've curious on the difference.

Rock auto lists them, now if they are right or not is the question. but they list ac delco numbers that in itself may be a blessing.
Heres some pics not the best since my camera is dead had to use the phone
Image album of suspension
in the second picture you can kind of see how the bushings are off set to the outside of the truck.

Interesting. Never seen any like that before on a truck. If they list the AC Delco part number use it. When I go parts hunting, I try to find the stock part numbers. Numbers make things easier to find at different stores or sites. Let us know if the numbers work out.

Well I got an education from the local GMC dealer parts guy. according to him, being as it is an R3500 it was ordered as a cab and chassis. Heavier suspension, according to him from my vin, 14,000 gvw. Explains why It doesn't care when I dump 3 ton of stone on and it doesn't seem to care. Could also explain the air bags inside my front coil springs.
As for the parts, not available from GM. Go figure. I have some other stuff ordered from a local shop. It should be in tomorrow or Friday. Tear it down Saturday and see what fits and what doesn't.
Last option, If all else fails I pull the whole lower bar and a frame, take it to my friends machine shop and make bronze bushings for it.

I just redid the supension on my 1 ton. Some parts were wicked hard to source (e.g the upside down U-bolts and anchor plates. It isn't a dually and the gvw is only 10.2 K but these guys had everything I needed right on the shelf.
If you live in the NE they might be able to fit you up.

Quartlow - it may be possible the airbags inside the springs are factory pieces that were meant for motor coaches!
That 14,000 GVWR makes it a damned heavy duty truck, in fact just a little bit shy of the next generation's totally unique 3500HD trucks that have leaf sprung straight axles and a 15,000 GVWR. Regular 1 tons hover in the 10,000~11,000 range.
