Apologies if I'm pestering.
I have another idea about finding the OEM # for my '96 3.1L compressor.
Does any part of the VIN pertain to the compressor? OR if there were indeed two models of the 3.1L in 1996, would the VIN identify that? (Which I don't think is true that they changed anything midyear?)
Thanks again!

Most differences in GM compressors is the clutch pulley size or line ports. Take it off and go to your local u-pull-it and match it up to one with a tag number.

Thank you very much for that info on what changed here and there. Better to be sure by comparing beforehand.

BTW, I got the idea late yesterday to call my local Chevy dealership's garage. The last eight characters of my VIN gave him something to go on. Just sayin.'
