Hey all!
Last week I made a CAD drawing regarding big block emblem placement for the 1965 Caprice (only) and put it in the Reference Materials area under Body and Chassis. Years ago, I did one for the 1965 big body cars, but the Caprice was not included. The Caprice flags are in a different location than regular big body cars for some reason.
The information was taken from the GM Assembly Manual, second edition.
Enjoy!

Mike,
You must be the only one of us who are lucky enough to own a '65 Caprice. There was one parked on the side of the road (in front of the owner's house), not far from where I grew up, about 1/2 a mile from where I live now. My Dad & I tried for years to buy it... it was parked under a maple tree as the weeds grew up around the windows.
When the owner passed away... the house was spruced up and the yard was landscaped... I was told that the son of the owner had the car hauled away and *gasp* sent to a scrap yard *gasp*
I'd love to see some pictures

Thanks for asking!

Looks like that car has a later motor with the bayonet oil filler cap and PCV valve on the driver side valve cover...

It's a 75,350 with a 350 trans.
The intake is a 68 truck.
When I bought the car,I told the guy I wasn't concerned about the engine. But,the car had to be rust free.
It is slowly evolving into something better!
Here's a picture of the engine when I got the car-

Imageshack won't let me access the latest engine picture.

tom, not sure what the deal is on the 65 caprice turbo-fire emblems? some seem to be where the impala emblems were, others are up high like the turbo-jet emblems. and the cars appear original and unmolested. doc

396 on left fender and 283 on the right! Wonder what it was originally?

Doc, the difference is clearly defined in the Assembly Manual. I have owned one original 65 big block Impala SS and know a friend who had a 65 big block Caprice. The emblems were in different places. In fact, the car I own now has a big block Caprice fender on it that I bought out in California. Had to weld the holes for that emblem and re-drill it to match the passenger side!
If there is some confusion, it's probably because the cars you've observed had mixed or matched fenders on tham after all these years.
66 cars have the BB emblems in the same place on both models (but different from the 65 model year).
Your flags are in the correct location, and it's not a Caprice!

Do you think the "327" is higher because the "Caprice" is higher than the Impala's?
Sort of an effort to make it all line up better?
Here's mine, original fender to the car with one re-paint.

As far as I know, there were no "low" mounted small block emblems. Even the 409 used the standard mounting location.

409 caprice??? i don't think a am making my question clear? the biscayne, bel air and impala with a 283 or 327 the emblem was in a lower position on the front fender. the caprice with a 283 or 327 had the same emblem but mounted higher and possibly a little forward. like in the pics above of the caprice. i had thought i seen 65 caprices' with the emblem low like the impala, but now i am second guessing. doc
