Embarased to ask but need some help. All, car has been converted to 12V. I decided to get away from the ceramic vr and use a runtz voltage reducer. BTW, I had a bad OEM fuel guage that I decided to replace. The shop manual wiring diagram is not much help at least not to me. I do understand the brown sending unit wire and it's location on the guage. I do know where the pink wires go on the guage. Here is the question: Can someone please explain the "2 into 1" pink wires. I do see where one wire goes to the "ign" post and out to the coil. How about the other wire? Also, I have a seperate pink wire on a fuse but cannot trace where it comes from and it's purpose. I hope this makes sense and thanks. Just trying to understand the system a little better.

Hi Jim,

Here is the circuit for my '53 - hopefully it's the same.

One way to think about this that reduced confusion for me, is the gas gauge post is being used as a power leg for three unrelated systems. The three effected systems are:
1) the (+) side of the coil
2) the turn signals
3) the gas gauge

So, power leaves the ign. switch in a pink wire to the gas gauge. From there it powers the gauge, it also leave via another pink wire to the coil AND it entered a single fuse that protects the turn signals. (took me a bit to figure out what the heck that was)

NOW, when using the RUNTZ, the only circuit that you want to reduce the voltage on is the gauge. So make sure you follow the directions and have all the other circuites connect at the oposite end of where the RUNTZ attaches to the gauge.

Hope this help.

Thanks Carl and Dean for the help I really appreicate it! After your explination and looking at the diagram again it makes better sense now. Anyway, I have left the fused wire off the one post, hence the reason my signals are probably no longer working? Knowing the circut and how it powers, would it be possible to "smoke" the one single wire that runs between the fuel guage and the "ign" post with the key on?
PS: My fuel guage is working with the runtz installed. I guess I am afraid to install the fused wire to the runtz. Could the flasher/signal circut cause this to happen?

Jim,

I'm not exactly sure what problem you're having so I'll just comment on your statement above.

a) if you gas gauge works, your runtz is installed correctly and your hot wire from the ignition is correct and working.

b) if your car starts and runs, your pink coil wire is also correct.

c) if you leave that fuse line unconnected your turn signals will not work.

If you're uncomfortable hooking you turn signals up to the runtz you can run a dedicated line from the ign. (on) to that fuse. Start it at the same spot as the pink wire on the ign. switch.

If you do decide to hook it to the runtz, remember, it goes to the 12v side of the runtz!! (the runtz now has a 12v and 6v side.)

Let us know how you make out. ....and be safe, disconnect the batt until you have everything safely wired up.
