Do you have the vehicle's OWNERS MANUAL? They are listed inside it.

Hello Lil Robo,

What bulb are you trying to cross reference??

The bulbs in the '58 are all current production numbers - so I would like to know the "cross over" item??????

A common problem in that circuit is a shorted cigarette lighter.

i guess when the door is open the switch makes contact and send power to the dome???? and it uses the ground of housing for blub ???? and maybe thats when i get my short ,,, seems funny cause there is no blub in the socket everything is ok so something to do with blub maybe a hort in the socket ,, i need to remove the dome light to see behind it

Are you sure you have the correct bulb?
What number are you using???

Wrong lamp - one with one contact can cause this issue as well.

Use 1004 for the dome light. It's the one with the double pins on the bottom as Ollie mentioned. Use T1895 in the dash lights. Same wattage as the TS57 originals but with a heavier duty filiment.

Yes, a bulb with a single base pin will short the two contacts in the socket resulting in a short circuit when the door switch closes.

The glove box lite should have an orange wire going to it. The 58 heater has a gray wire w/plug in bulb that goes at the top of the control unit in the back.

I found a wiring diagram for sale online for around $15.00. It measures 11x14 and is laminated. I think he also had an 8x10 but the price difference wasn't that much.

I found it very useful in tracing circuits - easier than the B&W in the shop manual.

Just a thought
Mark

I check on ebay - price went up to $20.00 - still easier on the eyes!

The socket for the glove compartment is at the end of the push button switch. The wire has a connection in the shape of a "J" - like a hook. The hole in the glovebox is about 1/4" in diameter and is located slightly behind the switch -on the left side of the box as you look in the box.

If I recall correctly, there is a picture of this in the Assembly Manual.

It depends on how much you're going to be doing.

If all you need to do is replace bulbs then not really. If you find yourself getting deeper and deeper then in my opinion, a big help, especially if looking at line drawing help you figure things out.

To me both are essential along with the Accessory manual since some things are not it the Shop Manual or the Assembly Manual. In short, if I wee to get another car of a different year or make, I'd try to locate all three books - of course alot depends on you experience with cars and your finances.

Just my two cents!
