I am thinking about replacing the engine harness in my 64 impala 327 SS. I would like to start out by replacing all of the wiring in the engine compartment. What will I need? Would it be better just to by a complete wiring harness? Any suggestions will be great!!!! Who has the best quality and deals? Thanks!

American Autowire has what they call “Factory Fit” harnesses that should just plug in. You may be able to get just the engine harness rather than the entire car harness but that’s not a bad idea anyway.

Another vote for American Auto Wire here. I put a new harness in my 9 passenger wagon eons ago now, and have never had any issues. And their support on this vendor forum is outstanding.
Get one of their harnesses any number of places, then pick a weekend and dive in.
you'll want to get some good crimpers also. Not the cheesy ones sold in nearly every automotive store. A good set of crimpers will last you a lifetime and ensure the crimps you make between connectors and the wire is SOLID. Bad crimps or loose crimps (when undetected) make your electrical system act wierd. Spend the extra hundred bucks on the right tools.
