Hi guys. I'm getting ready to order stuff for my rewire this summer. I have a 50 4 door Styleline Deluxe. Any thoughts on the standard factory manual diagram vs. the new color coded variety that's out there? I haven't been able to put a 50 Chevy set side by side for comparison, but at a glance, I think I like the older picture better. Anyone tried the newer one? Does the newer one have the gauges? Thanks!
I drove a '50 from the day I got my license thru college! Sadly, we sold it when I got married. I recently got the chance to buy the same car back from the man I sold it to; but the deal fell through and now I own a nicer one: 4 Dr Styleline Deluxe!

You might want to look into this...They have been doing concours orginal harnesses since 1970. You can get them in original cloth type and colors or vinyl if you prefer. I have their products on my own '50 model. Wiring diagrams are easy to read.

Thanks for the advice. Do you prefer the factory diagram or the newly revised and color coded one? Thanks!

I made a color-coded version of the original schematic for my 54 and printed it out on 48 X 48 inch paper. During my rewire, it hung on the garage wall for quick reference. Don't know how I would have done it with a small, black & white version. I'd recommend getting the largest color schematic that you can.

Are you doing a 'judged every nut and bolt' restoration? Because I can think of a few improvements to the original wiring harness...

Like fuse boxes and breakers, for example...

I'm not doing a judged restoration. First, I wouldn't know what to do, and second, too expensive, and third, I just want to drive it soon! With that in mind, I am planning to get a Rebel Wire Harness. I think the 21 circuit harness seems like a good deal since I can "add on" stuff for some time to come and it's not that much more money than the others. This was advice I got on this forum too. I understand the need for color coding, but the examples I have seen for sale look like they may lack the descriptors like the gauging. I may do what our friend above states and enlarge the original and color code it myself to the rebel harness colors. Another question: Are the wire gauges going to be the same for the 12 volt system as they are for the 6 volt?

It's on classic car wiring . Com or something like that. Unfortunately, you can't view specific diagrams before you buy them. They just have a generic example to view. I understand that they would lose money if they posted them all for viewing, it's just hard to tell if all the labels are going to be there.

FYI- I've started wiring my '51 from scratch. I will be posting the diagram on line for free when I'm done. I'm using stuff you can find "locally" too, no exotic fusepanels or anything custom. All hardware/parts store stock.

The car had nothing in it when I got it, so I'm doing it all from step zero on.

I have no personal experience with these guy, but I can't imagine it's bad as all they have to do is copy the original in color. I started to to this myself but only go through the circuits I needed.

I will say that I bought a laminated enlarged diagram form my MGB when I restored it. What a life saver and worth EVERY penny.

This guys wiring diagrams are great. I have three of them for different years. They are completely redrawn in 11X17 format with full color markings, laminated in heavy easy-to-clean plastic, and are very easy to read. They are WAAAAY better than any stock black and white diagram from a factory manual.
Highly recommended!
