To remove the fender shield (gravel guard) remove the "loading hole cover". What the heck is that? I'm not near the car right now and I just can't picture anything under the fender like that.

Thanks

Dean... the page you posted there is for a convertible. Is that what you are working on? It sounds like something from the interior, possibly from behind the seat? Do you have the seat and interior panels out?

On my 52 2dr sedan they are accessed from inside after the side panel is removed. Hope this helps.

Hi Dean50,

I suspect that this has to do with the need for interior access. Is this a 2-door? Then that has to be it. I have a 2-door 54.

I want to add that, upon reading your post, I did a Google search on "loading hole cover." Even though only a few hours had passed, what came up in the search was YOUR POST!. Big Brother is watching...

I had to take out my back seat and the side panel to get to the nuts that held on my gravel guards on my 54. I have pics if you want to see them?

Sorry!! I lied! No pics. Thought you could see them in the pics I took of the drain tubes but you can't.

That's what you have to do to get to those gravel guard nuts which hold them on.

Yes, you need to get ascess from inside the car below the rear window. there should also be a phillips screw on the outside down along the bottom. Did you dent one that you need to replace or wanting to have them polished?

Hi Donn and thanks everyone!
Two door sedan.
Yes, I have two fresh shields and one of mine has a couple of scratches in it. I'll pull the back seat and check it out. I'll also change out a piece of dented door trim while I'm at it.

Thanks, all.

I thought the loading hole was the plate where the window regulator and other mechanisms related to the rear quarter window were put in. Shown below the regulator in this page (81) from the same manual:

http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/fisher/1949/4...

But I didn't think any of the gravel guard bolts were accessible from there. As mentioned by others, I had to take out the rear seat to get to the bolts on my 1951.

Thanks again.
I didn't notice I had shown the convertible trim parts above but the gravel shield looks about the same as mine. Once I get the seat out I should be able to figure it out.
