Have a SM465 in my '74 Blazer and would like to switch to a hydraulic clutch so I don't have to get continue with the left leg body building exercises with the stock setup.
Anyone done it?

I've not done this to my 75 K5 yet, but it is in the plan when my 5.3 comes together. One of my buddies did it to his 78 K10 when he swapped in a nv4500. It's relatively simple job provided you get all the correct parts.
The simple part of this is the fact that the later square body trucks from the mid-80's came with a hydro clutch setup with the 465 trans. Ideally you find one of these in the boneyard you can peel the parts from. Here's a link to his build for the 5-speed swap. The discussion of the hydro setup starts on page 3.

Yenko, that link is broken. I tried doing a search to find the new link, but there are several articles that my search terms showed up. Since you know more about the article, maybe you could do a search to find the specific article you were talking about.
One of the ones that showed up:

I guess there's (2) choices of using a slave to push the existing arm back, or it looks like McLeod has a hydraulic throwout bearing.
Any comments on the later?

In the later 5 speed transmissions GM began using an integrated slave/bearing arrangement; it works OK but failure rate seems about the same. The difference is, with GM's external slave setup, you can change the slave without removing the transmission. With the integrated style...you guessed it, transmission is coming out for slave replacement. Last one I did was on an NV4500, even worse out of a 3500HD model so it had the longer tailshaft housing with the drum parking brake setup. They're about 250 lbs. dry...
One upside to the integrated setup of course is that it gets rid of the fork/pivot assembly which is another wear area in the system.

My old 80 plow truck (465) was so rusted out at the end, the cab would shift forward from hitting the piles and the clutch would get stiff. I'd back it into a tree to get the cab to go back.
Still, the clutch was easy for whatever reason. The z-bar set-up in my 82 T/A was heavier. Both had stock crap PP's.
I'd go with just the slave Charlie. Unless you have another reason to take the trans out.

The tranny has to come out either way as the clutch needs to be replaced. I do think it's a good point the external slave can be changed vs the tranny coming out again for the integrated bearing option.
Thanks,
Charlie

This one goes to the right place. He's got the swap figured down to make it look and work like factory.
