I pulled the turn signal guts out today and while removing the copper circuit that the hazard switch screws into it came apart.

So seperate from it is another black plastic piece in the same general shape with a black tab on it. I have no clue where it goes but im sure it keeps something from touching something. Anyone know how it works or have pictures that would be close to an '85?

You can replace the entire assembly. You can get it from the parts store.

The plastic part of the switch tends to wear out and break, causing the switch to stop self-cancelling. Only cure is to replace it.
