Anything special to do with initial start up since it has a roller cam? I know it wants the timing at 10 BTC with premium. I primed the pump and got 45 lbs. Anything else?

I don't have a camera...sorry, but I will start it tomorrow. I put headers from Patriot on today. They fit well and clear the 500 box with plenty of room. We have a lot of things to go to this Summer and will be nice with the new power. Back to the 50's is one that we go to every year.

Hi!

My memory is getting foggy now but I believe my ZZ4 was run at the factory. Mine came with the HEI distributor, plug wires, and plugs. Anyway, we fired mine up on a test stand and once we got the carb set reasonably well, we ran it up to about 2,000 rpm for several minutes and had no problems with it.

Once it was in the car, we followed GM's procedure of a few part throttle runs and then a couple of full throttle runs up to about 5,000 rpm to "seat" everything. Anyway, it has been in my car for seven years now and I have had no trouble with it. All I added to it were Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rockers.

I like the low end torque and fairly calm idle. Yet (not that I would ever do this) when you put your foot in it makes loud tire noises, even with 3:36 gears.

Hope you make it to Back to the Fifties. I will be there somewhere. Our cars appear to be very similar; mine is a 210, however.

Good luck and have a great day!

Craig

Mine came with distributor and plugs but no wires, carb, starter, oil filter or oil filter adapter. We'll be at Back to 50's as usual so maybe we'll run into each other. There will be plenty of tri 5's there as usual.

The motor started right up this morning. Awesome sounding especially with just the headers. Oil pressure was 55 - 60 on idle and temp never went past 195 which is what I think the thermostat is. Anxious to drive it this weekend.

Friesen Chevrolet, Sutton, NE. The price was $4,125 while the dealers in Omaha NE wanted $5,200 at Huber and $5,600 at H&H. Sutton is a little over 100 miles from us. They sell a lot of crates for a small town dealer.

That's a good deal from JEG's, $4300 was about as good as I have seen around here. I plan to buy it out of state so I don't get hit with the 9% sales tax.

Are you guys using the serpentine front set up with it ?

Drove it 200 miles today. Ran great. Temp stayed at 195, oil was 55 on the highway and 40 when warm and idling. No leaks or any other issues. I had set the timing at 10 BTC as instructed by the book. The tank was about 3/4 full of 87 octane regular but the ZZ4 didn't seem to care even though the book says to use 92 octane. The only ping I heard was in 5th when the motor was in a little bit of a load so that's pretty much normal. Once the tank got down to a 1/4, I filled it with premium. When I was coming up the highway on the way home, I stood on it a little in 2nd and ran it up towards 5,000. It felt like it has some gut. I'll drive it another 100 miles or so and then change it's oil and it's ready for driving.
