This switch(?) is mounted under the driver side vent pull. I looks like it should have some sort knob or push button attached to it...but it doesn't. It was on the car when I bought it. It doesn't operate anything I can find. It on the 62 Belair wagon. I thought it may be to operate the rear electric window. When it's pushed in, in barely moves. It could be stuck or broken (non op)....any ideas?

Is it a push in switch, or is it a rotating "pot"? My first thought was it might be a radio0 rear speaker volume control. Back in the day, I saw many mounted in that general area. From the looks of the picture though, it really doesn't look like a pot to me.

Who know what it could have been connected to....fog lights??

Did you also try to pull out or turn the shaft? Can you tell where the wires go or do they disappear into the harness?

Mad Joe and Wagonman...Doesn't rotate. It will not pull out, but will push in a hair and release back out. When it pushes in it doesn't ckick or anything, just stops and come back out when released. Says "Littelfuse INC" I can't follow the wires, they get lost in the loom. This may have been a radio delete car...no speaker bracket and no antenna hole. I guess it could have been removed by the previous owner(s). When I bought it, no radio and had hed delete plate.

Just noticed a flat section on the end...it will turn in both directions and return to center...I would think with the flat spot it would have had some type of knob...

Can you post pics of the connector side and the knob side? Does the connector have 2 or 3 wires? If three, it could very well be a rear window switch that is missing a knob.

Since it has three terminals and IF your wagon has the electric rear window, I'm sure that this is the switch for that. Next step is to put a test light on the motor plug and turn the switch or jumper the switch wiring connector to confirm.
This is a test buzzer I made 20 some years ago to be able to hear when a circuit is completed in places where I couldn't see a light. It was made from a key in/door ajar buzzer from a 70'sor 80's GM car.

That is the power tailgate window switch. It does rotate left and right (when in proper working order). It's actually the same switch as power top.

Thanks for confirming Donny. At the very least I will need a new knob. Is there a place to get one for this switch... or a new switch with the knob? Also it was located where the new A/C vent is going, so it looks like I will have to relocate the switch...any suggestions for the relocation? the harness is pretty short there...is there a pigtail available to get some distance for a new spot?

If you use the original style a/c vent, it actually has the provision for this switch.
