I just discovered this forum. I thought I should introduce myself and my pair of Malibu Classic Coupes.
I'm not new to the 78-83 Malibu. My affection for the 78-83 Malibu began in September 1979 when at 15 I was taken by my sister to the local Chevy dealer where she had me help her pick out the options for her new 1980 Malibu Classic Landau Coupe. This was back in the day when you could still special order a car with any options you wanted and you did not have to buy option groups.
The landau coupe got pretty much every options but 3, no power windows, no power door locks, and no radio! since at the time aftermarket radios and tape decks were far better than stock units.
The Landau coupe arrived on the 17th of December 1979, it was tripple black, meaning it's upper and lower body colours were black as was the vinyl landau roof, with a dark claret deluxe cloth interior. One of four produced with those colours for the 1980 model year at the Oshawa assembly plant. This black Malibu is the car I got my driver's license with! Eventually my sister sold me the car. I may not technically qualify as the original owner but close enough...
My black 80 landau coupe is currently up on stands stored away in my garage, it's factory black lacquer paint still has a deep shine.
My 79 Euro export Malibu Classic Coupe is more a test mule. It's the car that I can mess with and not feel guilty if I do non factory mods with.

Welcome to CT. This is a great site with great people. Nice looking cars you have there. The two doors are becoming quite rare.
I have an affection for these years as well. I own a '78 El Camino that is heavily modified and an '83 Malibu wagon that is even more heavily modified. It is converted into a two door using coupe doors and El Camino door glass to make it look like a Nomad. It is also tubbed and will be getting a blown/injected small block.

Very nice pair you have there!
The Euro lights are really rare to see here in the states!!
How did you get ahold of a Euro-spec car here?

I just noticed this new area and thought I would post a picture of my BU. Car was a rust free body with a V6, 3 speed and black vinyl interior and is now a built 355, 4 speed with posi. I bought it in 2000 for $600 with 72,000 actual and it now has 95,000. These cars seem to be very rare as there are not many in the area where I live. Once in awhile one will be at a cruise in/car show. I always make sure I look them over when they are.

Jay, How about posting pictures of your camino and wagon? I'd like to see them and I'm sure others would enjoy also. Rich

retiredrich,
Nice Malibu!
And, a few "teaser" pics that I've taken of Jay's vehicles ... a bit old, though, from 2008:

I can attest to the fact that the pictures do not do Jay's Elky justice.
