Want to convert my 64 Chevy II from a 6 cylinder over to a LS V-8. All of the aftermarket front ends such as TCI, Heidts, Detroit Speed, and Chris Alstons for this conversion have supports that run from the frame and bolt to the fire wall. Does anybody know of another way to beef up the front end that eliminates these two supports?

Because of the way the unibody is made, there's really no practical way to do what you ask.
If you install one of those aftermarket front clips and install inner fenders, you really don't notice they are there anyway. The engine bay looks like a standard car, and those tubes are behind the inner fenders.
As you shop for this product, pay attention to what they sell you for a inner fender. Some kits don't even have them, leaving them up to you. Others have some pretty nice ones.

the supports bolt up to the factory holes on the fire wall. They take the place of the sheet metal inner fender and shock tower assembly that gave the original front end its support.

Ok, thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I get ready to buy the front end for this car. I have seen some of these cars at car shows with the supports that were very visible. Didnt care for the look. I'll keep looking.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry I just saw this post. Church Boys Racing makes a great rack and pinion front end kit for the early Novas. I just put one under my 67 Nova and it works great, you wont be disappointed, it's a little spendy tho but, it still looks like a Nova under the hood.

I have a Fat Man strut kit on my '63 SS. It uses Camaro struts and a manual rack. I had to have a front sway bar made by Saner products in Florida. Eventually I installed a Chevette power rack. (Who knew Chevettes even had p/s!) I have a 350 with headers. The engine bay looks stock except for the top mounts of the struts. They look like a pipe cap instead of the stock shock bracket. But if I had to do it over I would go with one of the front clip replacements.

I have a 67 Nova Wagon and I used CPP'S kit, easy to install and eliminates alot of parts and looks good when finished. The inner structure is not modified at all. It includes tubular upper and lower control arms, and allows you to use standard steering or r&p. allows you to upgrade to disc brakes also.
