Hey guys, Friend of mine just had his '51 completely rebuilt 216, 3 sp.trans, and his trans is giving him trouble. It won't down shift into 2nd gear with out grinding. The guy that rebuilt it said mybe the cheap Chinese syncro is bad. Are there better parts out there to buy than the Chinese stuff?any advice would be very helpful.

I didn't know the Chinese were even making synchros for the '49-'54 3 speed transmissions. Those are difficult synchros to replace. But you would think even cheap synchros would last for awhile anyway. My bet is clutch adjustment or linkage adjustment.

The guy that rebuilt it is blaming cheap parts? Exactly who was it that put those cheap parts in the trans in the first place? I smell a cop out.

I recently blew up the 3 speed on my 52. I was given a few by variouse friends that had different mounts on them so a local guy took the best parts out of one, and put mine back together again. The car is much smoother now, but it also has the grinding problem going in to second either up or down. he said to pull it out and he will see what he can do but I dont hink I will bother as I am acumulating parts for a 5 speed swap asap.. he figured maybe there is a bit of crap in the syncro not allowing it to do its thing? It was the better of the 2 that he had to work with, so he is a bit stumped as well. When I saw the one that came out of it originaly, I am amazed it was working at all, and so was he..
