Just bought a 79 k20 with 16.5 rims.

Is this a factory rim?

Does anyone make 16.5 tires?

The tires on the truck have a lot of tread, but they are nearly 15 years old and dry rotted.

Thanks,

Don

there are a few pleces out there that still make 16.5 tires...

go to tirerack.com and do a search on 16.5 tires available to get a feel for cost and availability.

once you find something there you like, you can either order them or find a local tireshop that sells that brand, check pricing, and have them order them...

a lot of guys just buy a set of 16" wheels and go from there

I think you'd be better off in the long run to buy 16" rims. The 16.5's are a dinasour nowdays.

Problem with tire rack is they not like to go back to far on older trucks. I know they can't find anything for my 81 gmc. In my topic tire selection some one posted a link to a tire visualizer. Up load a good side pix of your ride and you can try getting as close as possible to your make and year as you can. Nice seeing what rims look like before hand.

technitom-

Thanks- I ended up going to tire rack and searching by rim size- Aparently BFG AT/KO come in 16.5, and it's similarly priced to 16''-

Freebird-

I'll have to check that out later. What I'd like to find is the steel ring that goes around the outside of the rim, and hubcaps, and spray the rim black... Does anyone have leads on this?

On ebay I found a lot of those rings for 16''s only

phatrat-

I deal with dinars every day. It's a disease really.

Free_bird,

instead of searching by vehicle, search by size instead...

that was me that posted the visualizer in your post...

To find tires by rim size, from Tirerack.com, on the left hand side

Now you can select the rim size, in the photo I selected 16.5, and select 'See all available sizes'

Now you can select the 'Change Diameter' again I selected 16.5, and it shows all tires available in 16.5.

Using this tool, I found that the 33' BFG AT TA are similar in price between the 16/16.5.. going to stick with my stock wheels
