Well it is made to absorb. It's a better use than it's named purpose anyway. I'd never own a cat after what I've been through in the last 15 years with stray cats. My dog poos and pees outside where animals are supposed to.

Oil absorber and kitty litter are both made from diatomaceous earth.
If you have a lumber yard (remember those??) close by, saw dust works well too.
Kitty litter works well when you need instant traction on ice.

Charcoal ashes work great for soaking up oil spots and spills. I've got a bag of it in the garage waiting for the next time Junior comes over!

So she brings them home to "save" them and then tells you to use mouse traps on them?

Have used it for years - and I don't have a cat. The little green pellets make the shop smell so fresh!

I have used it but I prefer NAPA stuff. It is on sale once or twice a year and I purchase a large bag of it. What I really like and cannot get here is rice husks, used it all the time in Oregon but never has seen any for sale around here. With Kitty litter you may be paying for deoderant as well.

That will happen if the cursor gets moved when you right click to paste in the quotes. Happens a lot with the wife's laptop. The cursor doesn't stay between the brackets for the quote to go in there.
The cement isn't a bad idea. Pretty cheap too.

Just don't use kitty litter or oil dry on water.
It'll make mud.
Saw dust will soak up water and leave a clean floor underneath.
I can't see using BBQ ashes. Seems like it would leave more stain on concrete than the oil.
But I've never tried it. We have a gas grill.

Naw, that's my neighbor. I get all my propane and propane accessories at a discount.
Upon thinking about it, the ashes themselves are white, aren't they.
Just keep the charcoal bits out and I could see, now, how that would work.

I've tried it just because my daughter left a big bag of it at our house when she dropped off her cat (turns out he prefers to go outside - especially since we don't have a litter box in our house) I needed to pick up a transmission fluid spill and didn't have any of the regular clay stuff. It worked eventually, but I prefer the regular floor-dry stuff.
Funny story:
You guys will probably not believe this, but recently I had asked my wife to stop by the parts store on her way back from the grocery store and pick up some "kitty litter" floor dry stuff so I could mop up some tranny fluid my truck left in the driveway.
Now I can't really say what she was thinking because we have had this conversation before and she knew, or at least I thought she knew, the difference. well, she decided that she didn't want to stop at the parts store and picked up some "Johnny-Cat" at Albertson's instead.
Well, long story short, I have one of those big drip pans under my truck because if I don't drive it after a week, she dumps about a quart of fluid out on the ground. I usually keep that oil pan filled with floor-dry. Well, all I had was "Johnny-Cat" so I used that instead.
A couple of weeks later I pull the truck out to clean up what mess was left there and I see all these kitty foot prints all over the cement by my truck. I move the truck and found a bunch of cat turds in the oil soaked kitty-litter. Apparently that stuff has some odoriferous attraction to it that I hadn't quite taken into consideration.

Not really an answer to your question but I keep a gallon of mineral spirits around and put a small amount on the oil spot and let it sit for a minute before I put the oil dri down. The stain comes up really clean and the oil dri stays so clean you can reuse it two or three times. I had my doubts when I was told to try it but I was surprised how well it works.
