I am getting ready to finish up the work on my wilver anniversary coupe and i have a bit of a dilemma. i would like to have the performance increase that long tube headers will give me but i need to know how much ground clearance i'm going to lose. the suspension on the car has dropped it around 7/8" in the rear and right at 1 1/4" in the front. i will be running a 2 1/2" chambered exhaust from Allens Stainless Steel. i would run the mid length headers that Patriot sells but exhaust shops here will not touch a car that was originally equipped with catalytic converters if the exhaust has been altered removing the cat(s) i have pretty much resigned myself to running the iron manifolds that have been extrude honed.

so, can anyone tell me how much, if any ground clearance will i lose on my coupe, since these cars dont have much clearance to start with, i know i cant afford to lose much more especially on a daily driver car.

if i've asked this question elsewhere i apologize but a minor brain injury back in 2007 when i broke my neck, i tend to forget stuff pretty easily.

Can't answer specifically, but LOTSA folks here have (or had) cars with similar specs to yours without ground clearance issues. At least none that are worse than they were to begin with....I had a '69 (which is lower than the '78 to begin with), had 50 series tires on in and never had an issue, except with really high speed bumps in parking lots....Haven't seen any THAT high in decades!!

EXCELLENT! that is what i've been looking for. advice from someone who has actually OWNED a C-3 with the headers, not some nutsack trying to sell them to me or someone who has had headers on other cars so they feel qualified to give me advice. i've owned dozens of card with headers but never a corvette, in fact this is the first corvette i've actually owned long enough to go through it doing repairs. i've owned 3 before this. never got past the totally rotted away bird cages. i have just ordered the headers and the Allens chambered exhaust.
