Could that be a 65 with a 66 front clip?

The last pic shows the vin, which decodes as 66' so I'm guessing someone just patched in a 65 dash and console. Must have liked the 66' seats though.

I'm guessing 99% of the population wouldn't be able to tell that anything was different about that car.... but we.... we are the 1% ;-)

I noticed the dash right off,and then it looks like the big block flags might not be in the right location either.

Yeah, the placement of those cross flags is a hot topic amongst the purists. I like the 'Super clean original' line... except for the dash and console that is. Oh, and the engine compartment. Chrome valve covers? Edelbrock air cleaner and intake? A black engine with headers? Looks like a chromed/polished alternator as well, and I thought the fan shroud was only for A/C cars (or was that only in '65?), and for 20K on that engine bay it sure looks ratty.

Looks like the shroud is off a small block engine.

The radio is a 65 which goes along with the 65 dash changeout.

I like the Impala side and rocker trim on an SS model.

I am also finicky when it comes to correct emblem placement and such, and look at that closely.

I recently seen a 66 belair advertised with caprice rear taillights,SS impala interior, and so many other things that red flagged it that it was funny. Nothing wrong with adding parts to suit your build and such but I prefer to keep a certain theme going.

I did not want to be picking on this car, it just struck me weird with the 65 dash and console. Maybe that is what the guy likes or maybe he doesn't know it is not for a 66.
The door moldings are missing at the top and quarter window. The console plate around the shifter is missing too.

I'm afraid he probably knows what he's got now. He probably didn't when he bought it.

Well it would not be hard to change it back to correct 66.

427SS65,

I'm confused. You mean like this?

The original wheels were in the trunk...

It is a real ss396 4spd vert.

? Even the catalog clearly shows the side moldings on an SS, as well, as the rockers...
http://books.google.com/books?id=xWjwjQpamZkC &...

Am I missing something? I'm putting new trim back on mine.
