96 Impala SS Digital odometer has failed to read out. Speedo works. Is the actual milage recorded in the computer some where that a dealer or repair shop retrieve so a new odometer can be set to actual mileage???

No, it is only recorded in the cluster. You will have to have to new one set to what you know the mileage to be.

It's relatively easy to repair a 96SS whose odometer has faded out. I did it on mine.
