So a guy close to me needs to unload a bunch of 53/54 parts do to a space issue. He will only sell it as a lot. I only need a few of the items listed and plan to sell the rest. All the parts are used and things like the grill would need re-plating. Here is the list - what would you consider "street value" on the pile?
"including: complete dash with radio and gauges, 53 both fenders, 54 right fender, inner fenders, complete 53 grille with hood latch brackets and lights, front splash shield, rear bumper with brackets, lots of chrome and trim peices in great shape, rear glass, interior trim, generators, air cleaner, some original engine parts, and other misc items."
Thanks guys,
Carl

Lots of experience here, the reason he is selling them all for one money is that individually selling each part is a pain, and not always very successful.
It's worth whatever you would pay for the parts that you need - the only exception is if you absolutely know for certain a person (by name) who will buy some of the other parts.
If not, the few dollars you get for the remainder of parts will be offset by looking at them taking up space for a long time to come.
At least that has been my experience ......
Your mileage may vary ...

Hmmm, Vermontboy, that sounds like pretty wise advice.
Thank you,

Like Vermont said, I wouldnt pay much more than you are willing to pay for the parts you need.
No point in making his problem yours in having to sell off all the parts that are leftover..unless you dont mind that. Cesar

I'd offer him $500 for the lot. He's already "tipped his hand" by telling you he has a storage problem, so you definately have the upper hand here- he has a pretty darn narrow market{you}, and doesn't want to or have the time to part the items out himself. Having been in the buying market the last three years for most of what you're getting in the deal, I think they're worth way more than $500- you just have to be willing to take the time to sell them on Fleabay.. Strategy my boy, strategy...

I'd try to wheedle out of him what his expectations are--he might want less than $500, and it's hard to ship things as big as front fenders or inner fenders even if you do sell them on evil-bay. You might get stuck with them for a long time, however that said, I'd love to have a spare set of front fenders.

This kinda stuck!
Thank everyone, I really appreciate all the level headed advice. I get excited over parts and often talk myself into questionable "deals".
Turns out he wants $450 for everything which I feel is very fair - IF I needed everything! All I really "need" are some grill parts and not even the whole grill. He was sent me some pics and although the grill is complete, it's rusted and is rougher than I'd like (see my avitar fro what im running - far from show ) Other then that I would dig through the other parts and replace he has with what I have IF his parts are better. Big IF!!
I have no use for the rear window, fenders or splash pan - all big items and I have the same Brooklyn storage issues as him.
So I guess I'm gonna let this one pass and get back to sanding. My new paint is due to arrive and day now ~ gotta get ready!
Thanks again all,
Carl

Personally the advice to offer him the price you would be willing to pay for the parts you need is good. Why take on a larger problem unless you enjoy trying to sell stuff instead of working on the ride.

When I lived in Los Angeles I had a similar storage problem and I stuck a really decent front splash pan that I'd paid $100 for up in the rafters of a friend's garage. Sometime later she had some work done on her house and unbeknownst to me asked the contractor to also clean out the "junk" from her garage. I was over there a few days later, but my spare splash pan was gone and I never saw it again.

Wow - My neighbor is going to loan me her garage to store my fully restored MGB - hope she doesn't throw IT out!

would agree with the Guys, I would state the facts that with the cost of refurbing the parts that need replating, Grinding, Priming etc. He has to consider the options. Idaho hit it on the head I would probably go no higher than $500.00 I mean even if he listed that stuff on Ebay, he would pay close to that for listing prices. Either way if ya make the score and don't need the Grill Pieces I will take it off your hand.
