Getting ready to start a drive train swap. Now before I go the small block route, I was wondering if anyone converted from automatic to a late model stick. I would like to keep the 235 but have not come across any solutions to the kick down cable for a dual carb set up. So I wanted to see if anyone did a old powerglide to late model manual swap before I buy a small block and go that route. I know I have to find and get the pedals and linkage, but I'm thinking about the bell housing differenaces.

Have you tried to find a bell housing from a
235 or 216? You can bolt a T-5 transmission from a S-10 with a few modifications. Click on my transmission link below to check it out. It bolts up to the original clutch etc. The brake master cylinder holds the brake and clutch petals.

I'm not sure what to do about the kick down cable for a dual carb set up, mine are progressive.

Thanks for the links. I do not have a the bell housing yet. Since it's a 54 235, only a pre 55 bell housing will work right?? Also I noticed in the pics that you are running a different master cylinder. Are you using the stock pedal or something different?

55 AND LATER BELL HOUSING IS WHAT YOU NEED.

you use the stock pressure plate with an 11" s10 or stick astro van clutch plate.

you will need to trim the input shaft of the trans about 1/4 inch

and cut the old cross memebr out and fab up a new one.

do a search on here or the hamb for "ultimate t5 thread" there is more then enough info in there to get you hot and happy about rowing gears.

So a 55 and later bell housing will work? But isn't it a different bolt pattern. Or a pre 54 truck bell housing. I will see what I can pull up on the HAMB.

55 and later car bell housings work great

49 and later truck bell housings work, but from what i have heard and read the release arm is in the wrong spot and requires some gaffering to make work with the stock pedal set up.

TRUE VAN IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ORGINAL .THE 55/56/57 CAR/TRUCK AND THE 49 TO 54 NEED A LITTLE PLAING WITH. BUT IF YOU DO HAVE THE ORG.RELEASE ARM .IT'S A PERFECT FIT WITH THE 49 TO 54 TRUCK BELL

What about a 51 car bellhousing. I saw one on ebay for sale. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't 55 and up have the modern day bolt pattern. I thought that's why they make the adaptors for the 54 motors to run a newer trans.

49 to 54 car bell no good for 55 up trans. unless your doing t-5 trans. then you can use but need adaptor plate

Well got a 54 motor and trans with the bell housing that I needed for a whopping $11.00 I know the 80's s10 trans was mentioned. But looking around some people said a camaro trans would work. Anybody use one? Now correct me if I'm wrong but a t-5 trans has the 4 bolts that bolted to the bell housing?

The S10 T5 puts the shifter forward where you need it. The other T5's will have the shifter too far back. The adapter allow you to bolt the trans to the earlier bells. You do have to drill out the mounting holes as the T5 is metric and you need a 1/2" to mount to the adapter. The T5 is aluminum so it is an easy drill with a 1/2" bit.

T5 information. This will give you the answers to most of your questions. Read Ray's post above also.

I looked at the camaro transmissions and they were not right, check out the link above and your can't go wrong. If you are planning to put an electronic speedometer in you can use the later models but I elected to get mine rebuilt so I had to get an earlier model. There is a way to adjust the speedometer so as to make it accurate.

I got a rear end from a S 10 4X4 which is a bit narrower than stock would be. That allowed me to put in wider wheels in the back and allow for clearance.

Thanks I will continue to look for the S10 trans. I just hoping to broaden my search a little more. I picked up my $11 motor and trans yesterday. So now I have more pieces for the swap. As a bonus it looks like it's a full pressure instead of a dipper in front of the 3 speed.

The old powerglide is out. I got my bellhousing from a 54. Waiting for master cylinder and clutch pedal to arrive. Going to get some more pieces tonight. Hopefully should be getting an 87 s10 t5 Monday. Now correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like I need the clutch disk from the s10 and the pressure plate from the 54? Also any difference in the throw out bearings?

Got the posie springs friday before I left for Vintage Torque Fest. Going to put the rear in today. The salvage yard that had my trans I needed no longer has it. I know the elect speedos trans will work. How much of a pain is it to convert to mechanical. I'am finding a lot more of these.
