Here's a legitimate question for you guys.
The orange paint on my engine block and all related orange parts is in very poor condition. I probably will not be painting the block any time soon, but i do have the valve covers cleaned up, and those are ready for paint. What brand/color orange did you use to repaint any of the orange components under the hood?
Also in regards to painting, would you recommend that I invest in a paintgun setup? For most of the smaller parts i have used simple high heat primer/paint in a spray can, and it is turning out well (I am taking my time not to mess anything up) so far. I am open to suggestions.

I've had very good luck with DupliColor Chevy Orange in a rattle can.

x2 on Jerry's choice of DupliColor, and it's available at most parts stores.

Thanks! I'll check it out, guys.
Home Depot is probably the closest place with spray paint, and that's where i usually go for supplies, but they only have Rustoleum brand. I was looking up orange paints, and some places had it labeled as "Chrysler Hemi Orange", and I certainly don't want that!

You can probably get it at Walmart if you don't have a car parts store around. You are looking for Chevy Orange engine paint.

Don't mix brands. Also, pay attention to the instructions. If not done correctly, the paint will lift. Pay attention to drying intervals.

I've said in many places that I don't like any rattle can engine paint. I prefer catalyzed base cvoat/clear coat urethane, same as used on car bodies. IF you want to use rattle can stuff, be sure to paint the first with white primer. In fact white primer it first w/ catalyzed urethane too. Trying to cover the cast iron w/ color leaves it dull and dark and takes a lot of paint. The white undercoat makes the color pop w/ a pretty light coat.

It's OK; until you try the high end stuff! Base/clear urethane builds an almost powdercoat look and is a lot tougher than the rattle can stuff which seems to scratch just loooking at it. Regardless of what you chose, spray the engine w/ white primer. That base will make any color coat really glow.

For what it is worth a while back here in Canada I purchased several rattle cans of engine enamel distributed and labeled under General Motors of Canada part #992652, orange. It was a product of the USA.
The closest product that I have found to compare with it is Dupli Color engine enamel ORANGE-RED DE1607. It used to be carried at Wal-Marts among others.
To me this orange-red is more to the original than Chevy orange.
The label says it is imported from the USA by Sherwin-Williams of Canada so I do not know if it is available in your country or not.

I've used Plasticote engine paint, the V8 orange is a nice color. It lays on smooth and seems to get glossier as the engine is heated and cooled a few times.

X2 Jalapeno. I've used both & the Duplicolor has more of a redder/orange tint. Here's the PlastiKote version.

I have used Chevy engine orange from PlastiKote and Krylon and like both, easy to use, good gloss. If I use a spray gun, I have them mix Hugger Orange from 69 Camaro or Chevelle or from 71 Chevy pickup.

You asked about a paint set up.
I painted my engine and frame using the harborfreight gun that runs for around 10.00 on sale. I bought the plastic bags that go inside the canister at a auto paint shop as it allowed me to paint upside down under the car. They're like a heavyduty ziplock bag.
I used POR chevy engine orange I bought locally at an auto store. Seems to hold up well.

That color looks really nice! Thanks Jens! But why so many valve covers?
Thanks for the advice prgm, that is probably the route i will go in terms of a setup, then, unless anyone has any other suggestions.

Ditto on the duplicolor chevy orange 500 degree ceramic paint. This paint holds up well and touches up very well. This would be part # DE 1620.

Just make sure there isn't any trace of grease left on the motor, or rust.
