Hello,

I'm having problems with my door locks. As i am driving you can hear the door locks locking constainly. I have pulled out both wiring harnesses from the doors to check for cracks in the wires. I found a few and taped them up. After reinstalling them I took the van for a test drive and still have the same problem. I am wondering if anyone knows what is going on. I'm am also wondering what controls the doors to lock when you place the van into drive? I'm kinda thinking the van thinks the doors are unlocked and is trying to lock them. Does the computer control this?

Hope someone knows.

Thanks,
David

Depending on year, the bcm controls door lock when placed in gear if that feature is enabled, it can be disabled as well. I've also seen worn switches cause this.

The van is a 2004 Astro AWD van. How do I disable the automatic door lock feature from the bcm?

Try this:
Begin with ignition off. Pull the multifuction/turn signal lever towards you and hold. Now turn the key on then off 2 times ending at off. Release the lever and the doors should lock and unlock. You are in programming mode and must make your input within 30 seconds. If you exceed 30 seconds the door locks will lock and unlock again, start over. Inputs are as follows:
all doors lock/only driver's door unlocks: press the power lock switch twice on lock and once on unlock
all doors lock/all doors unlock: press the power lock switch once on lock and twice on unlock
all doors lock/ no doors unlock: press the power lock switch once on the lock and three times on the unlock
no doors lock/no doors unlock: press the power lock switch twice on the lock, this disables the auto door lock function

That worked. THANKS

But i'm guessing some of my other problems are from the bcm. Is the BCM something that can be changed at home or does a dealer need to do it?

You can change it out. You need to find a matching unit or have one programmed.

What other problems are present?

Check the door switch. They should be grounding properly. As for the dash, wow!! I would suspect the light switch may have a short.

The dome light timing is also a function of the BCM.

I have checked all the door pins and they seem to be working. As for the odometer light staying on I'll try to snap a picture of it to show you. I'm looking for the BCM and when I change it I'll let you guys know what it fixed.

Thanks for all the info.

Call the dealer. Ask them how much they would charge to flash it. It may be cheaper than buying a new BCM. Plus, they may be able to fix it or tell you it's bad.

Hey guys I have a new problem starting with my van. When I turn off the van the running lights and the dash lights stay on. Would this be part of the BCM?

I talked to the guys at the dealer and they told me they doubt the BCM is gone because they dont go to often. Don't know if he was a mechanic or not but he also told me it was $180 bucks for them to just lift the hood.

The dealer is correct. BCM rarely fail, but do. Daylight driving lights have several inputs. The parking brake switch turns them off. The lights are activated the ignition switch. The lights go to full power by the light switch. The circuit somewhere is being grounded. The dash lights staying on is unique. I've never heard of such a problem. One common connection is power through the ignition switch. Set the parking brake. Do the daylight drive lights go out? What about the dash?

Hey, do you mean off as the engine being off and ignition still on? Or is the engine completely off and the key removed from the ignition switch?

Yes, the engine completely off and the key removed from the ignition switch. The only way I get them to quit is to turn the light dimmer all the way down and then they will go off.

This van is driving me nuts

Another common connection point for lights is the turn signal switch. It would be a stretch for back grounding through a turn/parking light all the way to the dash lights but isn't impossible. On some Chrysler products all switches are low voltage units that send signals to the bcm to actually signal the relays, on those the bcm controls every electrical function, not sure on the Astro how elaborate GM got.
