Sounds like you have two failed/failing O2 sensors. One in front of the cat and the other behind. I'm not up on OBD2 designations, but I'm guessing the bank 2 is the passenger side and bank 1 is driver side. Somebody hollar if I'm wrong.

If they're original, it's time to replace them all.

also noticed today at 65 miles and hour and when you kinda lug it its got geark to it. can the o2 sensors cause that? and i noticed that wire that goes were the thermostate is some one has moved it to the ac compressor bolt.

if your sensors are messed up lots of things can happen. switch them out go for a drive and post results of the switch.

That is messed up... This truck doesn't have a 3rd sensor. Only a bank 1/2 (driver/passenger) and sensor 1/2 (pre/post cat)

Not sure where to even start with that kind of problem.

Two before cat and two after. In 96 up they have two cats, one per bank. So each bank is handled separate. The first two o2 sensors are engine control sensors and are used for trim. The two after the cats are there purely to confirm the cats are functioning so they are emissions related. There isn't a 3rd in a bank. The OBD II code does accommodate for a 3rd in bank sensor and there are applications out there but not in the case of a 96 chevy vortec.

i got a 4.3 v6 not a v8. their is a sensor on each side just below the manifolds and their is on just before the cat so that makes 3 before the cat and their is one after the cat.

well i wanted to switch them around to make sure it wasnt a wiring problem or something else but the engine light came on this morning and i got a p1133. which is bank 1 sensor 1 with was the o2 sensor that i took out of the bank 2 that was showing bad. aslo is bosch o2 sensors any count? also i have also have had a p0146 Oxygen Sensor Circuit No Activity (Bank 1, Sensor 3) only had it to come on once. is that the sensor before the cat or after. their are 3 sensors total before the cat and 1 after. i takin it being 3 it has to be the one behind the cat. aslo my buddy said that were the on sensor is bad could be throwing the other sensor off. idk im not much of a mechanic.

That last code is the post cat. So we know for sure you have two bad sensors. IMHO do them all and around here we generally steer clear from Bosch o2 sensors.

i heard the delph brands Only reads 4mV at key on, engine off. A correct application sensor like the AC Delco AFS65 or AFS75 (original and part that superseded it) will read 450mV. Starting an entire half volt too low will cause your PCM to start dumping fuel to each bank trying to correct what it sees as a super lean condition.

Sounds more like you have a catalytic converter intermittently getting blocked up, would acount most likely for the odd o2 sensor readings
