ok so i got some new headers for FREE... my question it what is the best way to get 23 year old exhaust manifold bolts out without breaking them. i have new bolts i just really don't want to drill tap and have to get bigger ones. i put a wrench on it after soaking the crap out of it with liquid wrench and tapping away for a 1/2 hour. no joy. the sucker is welded in i think. (i have broken enough bolts to know how hard not to turn lol)

Sell the bubble-gum headers and make a buck?

Try shocking them. No, I don't mean show them porn! Put a boxed end wrench on the bolt, put some pressure on it and smack the bolt head with a hammer. Works best with two people. If the wrench is deeper than the bolt head, you will have to grind it off enough to show a little bit of the head.
Good luck, Mark

naa... I'm going to throw $$$ at this truck until i die lol the bodywork is all done over the next year or so im going to get a bunch of bolt on crap anyway the suckers are brand new not some rusty crap of a junk truck selling them would'nt be worth it cause i will end up getting them later anyway. im going to try all the tricks posted and if i still think i will break em i will just hold off putting them on until I redo the intake then i will have a week to deal with all the crap i break.

I have seen someone go as far as grinding all the heads off, sliding the manifolds off the studs, then just having the studs to deal with. But it was on a rebuild on a stand(slightly easier to get to). Then you can heat the block around the bolts where it really counts. I got one broke off and was wondering about gettin a bit that fits snug in the manifold and drilling the rough broken surface down smooth so I can use a smaller bit for my 'easy-out' hole. Then pray the others come loose so I can replace the gasket. If they're cheap headers, you may regret putting them on.
Keep throwing money at it, it'll get better...
