Hi Guys & Dolls,
I´m struggling a bit tuning my wifes 1979 Mustang.
It has a Chevy 388 with E-tech heads, a comp cams solid roller 280 advertised and an Edelbrock Pro-Flow xt Intake. Compression is slightly high with 11.8 : 1 . I Downloaded Copilot from zmans Website and it works, but somehow strange .
For shure I gave only the middel cell to adjust, 3 or 4 hits , 5% change and varied the processing speed from 800 to 1500 with hardly any difference.
Adjusting fuel cells in idle Copilot ALWAYS creates the idle running cell right but the lower cell to high and the above way to low . Sometines in cruising it creates the same : the cruising cell is ok but the above to lean and the lower way to rich. like 28-41-35 or worse from low map to higher map in one rpm row. The fuel graph looks spiky and the engine runs erratic. I smooth the graph out and the engine runs better. First time I told Copilot to change the adjacent cells in a cross-wise pattern and the idle was really better. But now, it makes always one cell ok and the adjacent erratic. Whats wrong?

Sorry, I don't know anything about Co-Pilot but that's a nice looking engine.
I especially like the custom engraving on the valve covers.
If no one else replies, I'd save what you've accomplished
with Co-Pilot and finish fine-tuning it manually. (Link)

Just got Zalenski's auto-tuner from Danny's link. Pretty neat actually. It has already corrected several lean spots in my map and the engine runs smoother. I'll keep running it and see what all it finds. Well worth $15.

had my wifes Mustang back and tried last weekend the Co-Pilot again, it didn´t work again.
tried to get the tzalenski Demo program but the link is dead. Tried to tune manually which is somehow difficult in easter visit-grandma-traffic.
Ok.
But got another two problems:
1. cold start (6°C) impossible without some throttle, holding engine for at least 30 sec. at 1500 and then I can relase the throttle slowly.IAC is at 200 then.Starting above 40°C engine temp is no problem.
Comp cams 280/280 adv.dur. solid roller.
2. base fuel map seems quite ok +- 7% But
accel enrichment vs. tps is very low about
1,04 in the first and 1,6 in the last field.
accel enrichment vs. map has also to be very low,
like 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,1 4,15,16
other base maps start with 15 up to 40 or so.
I got the Edelbrock-Pro flow XT setup with these new small injectors 29p/hs engine is 388 cui
compr. 11.8:1 E-Tech 200 heads.
Why do i have to use so small numbers?
and could I use numbers lower than 1 like 0,90 in the accel vs. TPS line?
And it has only 350 hp , I guess due to the Construction-equipment style air filter which is quite big but a bit restrictive and sort of block hugger headers.
my wife wanted 400+ hp.

What are the IAC counts at hot idle?
As for the AE, I've found the same thing (454 CUI, 42 lbs/hr injectors). I have to use very small numbers or the engine will run badly (rich misfire). TPS AE 1-3. MAP AE 8-20.

IAC is at about 15-20 at hot idle.
BUT: hot idle means oil temp up too.
Its quite a difference on a cold day to drive 5 miles or 20 miles. If I open up the throttle blade about 1/8 of a turn (the srew that stands vertical and opens the Throttle) i get an idle too high when the engine and oil are fully warm. I use engine oil
Motul 20W60. Got the most stable oil pressure ever with this.
Engine has a 2 stage dry sump system (selfmade, oil pump selfmade too: case and shaft billet, gears Ford SB pressure side and Ford BB suction side)
It has 4.5 gallons oil in it.So it takes quite a while to warm up.
