Hey guys, ain't this early spring weather great! Btw... got the liftgate adjusted up so it opens & shuts like a champ now and also got the back glass in. So what are you guys using around the rear door for the one piece weatherstrip? I see Ecklers lists one but it skips over the 58 SDL application if I'm reading it right.
P.S. don't let the paint reflection fool you in the middle pic. There's only one set of weather strip holes in the bottom of the door.

Thanks guy. Btw Hobart, if you're listening... The FedEx guy dropped off the Repops stuff today. Looks like the pre-formed upper window channels are going to work just fine. Thanks again for being the guinea pig on that one.

Grady that's the Steele part number for the back glass rubber which I already installed. Looking for the one piece weatherstripping that goes around the rear door. Eckler shows one for 55-57 & 59-60. http://www.lategreatchevy.com/chevy-rear-liftgate-...
Soffseal shows a listing for 55-60 http://www.soffseal.com/store/main.aspx?p=itemdeta... but when I call & verify I get put on hold. Ain't hot roddin' fun?

Hey Jens,
Boy that thing is shiny !
Here is a thread I started a long time ago on this topic: Weatherstrip . I ended up ordering the universal door weatherstrip from Steele. I am unable to find the part number at this time, and I have yet to install it, so I have no opinion on it...

Jens, I saw something interesting here: Where did you source your window fuzzies from? How well did they work out? Any installation tips?

Thanks for the link Hobart. The weatherstrip hole spacings are @ 4" so I might have to get ahold of Steele for the universal roll like you did.
Delray 58: The window fuzzies have staples and clips. I got them through Class Tech Cars & they were shipped out of the Repops factory in Arkansas I believe. Hollar if you need the contact info. Haven't had a chance to install them yet. Been working on getting the headliner installed first.

Thanks, Jens. This is one of the projects in my queue for this spring/summer. If you can send the contact info that would be great, then I'll just get a hold of them when I'm ready. Thanks!

Love those Nomad tailgate trims! Not tempted to put the Impala / Nomad side trim on too? The first delivery I ever saw was a red 58 with Impala side trim. I still love that car.
My 57 delivery runs the Bel Air side trims, put on in the 60s or 70s by the old drag racing owner. If I could do it again I'd probably do plain 150 style.

Sounds good Delray.
Not using the Impala side trim on it Tokyo. Just the 58 tailgate bars & rear qtr louvers to break up the black a little.
Finally got the headliner stretched now & ready for trimming using the original silver vinyl from SMS.
...It's times like these I wish she was born an El Camino. Stretching those long-roofs are time consuming. Like wrestling with Swiffer girls on a football field. lol.

I don't know if you looked at that weatherstrip-thread link I posted above, but I had considered getting the upper and lower wagon gate weatherstrips and cutting and gluing them, to use them on the SDL. Steele advised against that. It still makes some sense to me, but I don't want to waste money on it if it isn't likely to work.

Yes I looked at the thread Hobart. I haven't contacted them yet but I would rather have it one piece if possible. I wonder if trimming/seaming the 2 halves together might throw the 4" spacings off & come up short?

Yes, one piece would be the best; but I look at the "transition" areas between upper and lower gates and figure that universal strip is never going to look "right". I would guess that the wagon gates have that same 4" spacing. I envisioned cutting each piece in the area that would end up being partially removed and then glued, and trying to install it like that. That is, starting the bottom piece from the bottom and the top piece from the top.
I have not been able to look at a regular wagon to see the differences and decide if this makes sense yet. But, in my head it looks pretty good...

And it appears to have a nice, still intact, original sampling of the Forestry Service green paint that was used. From the pictures posted, it seems to almost have a metallic hue to it.
BTW Jens, your delivery is coming along very nicely. But, then again, we wouldn't expect to see anything less from you. Great job!!

Thanks Chuck you're too kind.
Hey Hobart... I got some good news & some bad news. The good news is I did some checking today & found the original tailgate weatherstrip on the other 58 wagon has the same profile/size as the 59 sedan front door weatherstripping. I did a little mock up and it looks like it will fit the transition area on the SDL gate with a little relocating of the pegs. That's the good news.
The bad news is the SDL gate has 46 peg holes -whereas the 59 front door weatherstrip only has 40. So it theoretically will work but unless you do some splicing it will come up short. My idea was that if your universal roll has the same profile and size & is a bit longer it should work with only one splice. What say you?

what if the 59 sd is similar? or center every thing up to where the splice is on the bottom water goes that way anyways for the drain holes that are on the corners of the sill for the gate.

Hey Jens,
The universal roll has the pegs every 4" I believe, just like the doors. I ordered 20' of it, which will be too much, but I'd rather have too much than too little . I don't have access to the rubber or the car right now, just going off memory.
That SDL you linked is cool, neat to see the interior pics of the rear sides and deck supports. Looks like another "regular" SDL in the background, too.
