Well, after hitting a deer last summer, I was able to track down a new front clip for my car. I have that new piece on there and fitting how I like it, but decided to replace the pass side rear quarter while I'm at it. It is the only metal on the car that isn't perfect (it shows of a poorly done rear quarter in its past). Having had this car since I was 16, it is tough to have it out of commission. I try to drive it everyday in the summer and will continue to keep her on the road. Here is a pic right before hitting the deer. I'll post some pics of the quarter panel replacement process... Enjoy!

I was just able to track down a complete power window setup locally, that I might buy. Does anyone know if they are pretty much bolt in (also from a 2 door parts car)? The same guy also has a tilt/telescopic column I may pick up if the price is right...

Nick,
If you go for the tilt/tele make SURE you get the dash collers that go with it. Make sure, too, that the tilt/tele works and is complete. Those things are rare and separate parts - like the horn button, are almost non-existant.
If I recall correctly my memory is excellent. My ability to access it is not.

Very cool car Nick, even though it's so tough to keep clean, I love the white. Love those rims too

Good info, I'll make sure it is all there, and in good working order (as best I can tell anyway).
Thanks for the compliments Greg. I have had many different wheels on this car since I have had it, but I am pretty settled on these.
Again, can't wait to see your car in person some day!

Nick,
My Daughter's step-dad, his family lives in Spokane .oO Maybe I'll let my 18 year old daughter, whose daily driver is a turbo charged New Beetle, drive my '65 over to Spokane while she's home from school this summer... After all, she probably got that fast-driving-thing out of her system when she was clocked at 88 in a 70 (Thank the Good Lord the nice Trooper only gave her a 79 in a 70).
On second thought, maybe I'd better teach her how to drive my '26 T instead... it only goes 30 m.p.h.

Haha, that's pretty trusting of you! When I was in college (WSU), my dad would let me take his 71' Corvette to school for the week. It was always a blast to drive, but I always missed driving my own 65'!

Front wheels are 18x8 and rears are 20x8.5's. I put a 13" disc brake kit on there with cross drilled/slotted rotors and dual piston corvette calipers, and 2" dropped spindles.
If I could do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing about this setup!

Nick,
I love the entire look of your car man - perfect. Do you have air bags on the rear to lower it?

Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Nope no bags. Maybe someday. Just 2" dropped spindles up front with the 18's. Out back, I have 2" lowering coils, that I took an extra coil out of for about 3" drop in the rear, with the 20" wheels.
No bottoming out anywhere, and she rides really nice. Once these tires wear out, I will be a bit more careful with selecting the next set. I'll measure and put a little more sidewall on there, both front and rear.

So this last weekend, I started working on the one area on the body that I wasn't happy with, the passenger side quarter panel. After sanding it down a bit, it was obvious the panel was wavy because someone had not taken their time installing a patch panel years ago, and actually slapped it on over the old panel. Since I am in the middle of a tranny install, I figured the timing would be right to tear into this project. Best of all, I am doing it myself. Well, I am doing it under the direction of a friend and one of the best car builders I have ever seen. I consider myself decent at many things but not exceptional at many, so this was a new world for me. The first cut on my car with a cutoff wheel was certainly a new feeling for me. Once this panel is done, I will paint (with Derek) my car. A few pics of the progress. (sorry for the bad phone pics)

Nick, The look is awesome, but I agree, I think I'd like a little more sidewall on mine also. How do you even begin to measure how much more can be added? I like the wheel sizes that you went with along with the lowering - can't beat it at all. On a different note, I almost fell over when I saw your last post with the quarter cut off! Just take your time with it, make sure you spread out your stitch welds so the panel doesn't warp. You'll have a great looking car when it's done man!

haha, I know. My quarter wasn't terrible, but I would feel better knowing that it was right. Someone had put filler over rust, and although I am not trying to build a show car, I wanted to get the body looking good.

Nick,
When you go to lay down the paint, let me know... If you don't already have the equipment, I've got a couple of SATA guns that work perfect & I'd be happy to let you use them.

Its going well! still getting the area and cuts cleaned up and ready to put the new piece on. I have only been able to work on it on weekends, so its kinda slow going... I hope to make some more progress tomorrow. I post up a new set of pics when there is some progress to show!
Thanks

Sounds good Nick. Looking forward to seeing some progress pics. I haven't been able to work on mine a lot either. Today, I broke down my rad support pieces for blasting and a coat of epoxy. Last weekend I had friends in from out of town and couldn't work on the car. Next weekend I am signed up to participate in the Autism awareness walk fund raiser here in Pgh. PA. My 10 year old son has autism. I work on the car when I can, not as much as I'd like to though! Good luck with your project man, keep us posted!

Very nice look Nick!!!
Question for you guys? My 65 SS is just too low in the front. The rear has air shocks so I can adjust height in the rear as needed there. I'm feeling at least ok with the rear for the moment.
A new set of original stock springs came with the car. My thot is to cut the stockers 2 coils to lower the car like approx 4-5". Correct equation? My car is black and I'm going with the polished Crager wheels. Want advice on the wheel inset for clearance purposes. Nothing less than 17" wheels. And where to purchase a set of wheels?

Hmmm, I wouldn't cut the front coils 2" if I were you. I did 2" drop spindles up front, which is a much better way to lower the car. If you want your to be much lower than mine is, air ride would probably be the only practical way to do and still be able to drive the car without scraping everything.
I had craiger SS wheels on mine for a long time, and 15" wheels looked perfect.

I just picked up some LED tail lights for my car. With these type, they replace the bulbs only, so I can keep my nice blue dot lenses, and besides being much brighter when lit, no one will know they are in there.

Trying to understand how those mount to the original housing. The look nice.
