hello fellas,
i visited Hotchkis website and saw their swivel max bushing upgrade for C10 trailing arms. seems like a good idea, but very pricey.
i was thinking, couldn't any generic johnny joint work? probably would have to fab some spacers, but would it work?

Are you reffering to heim joints? Maybe something like this? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/QA1-Adventure-Series...

well, sort of. the Hotchkis is more like a "johnny joint", without the threaded stud.
i was thinking of something like this

i should go take measurements of the front end of the trailing arm and see if this swivel joint end could fit in the arms. just seems like a "simple" alternative to the expensive Hotchkis option.

Interesting option for the trailing arms bushings. The cost each is not bad either and it seems like a good way to go. Let us know how they work if you install any of them.

i was searching the web and find something similar to what i was thinking of trying on the c10 arms.
http://www.vettemod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=231...
1st page has him drilling out the holes, 3rd page has the end result. i think it could work for our arms.
one problem i see, is when drilling out the holes, have each hole match up to the other arm. don't want one arm's pivot point longer than the other arm. thinking of making some type of guide or something to center the hole saw.

the conversion is finally done. it took awhile due to the manufacture's backlog in making the product (took about a month).
well, i had to fab up some parts for this conversion; made a bushing to guide my hole cutter (2 3/8" o.d.), then the bolt holding the new joint is 9/16" so i made some bushings (3/4" o.d., 9/16" i.d.) to accommodate the 3/4" hole for the old bolt.
i will post some pictures so all this makes sense.

here are some pictures of the modification.
i get more articulation and no binding.
i still have the bushing i made to drill out the hole for the johnny joint. if anyone wants to hack up their arms, i will gladly send out the bushing. you will need a hole cutter (hole saw should work, but not as accurate). you will need to fab up some spacers, since the width of the joint is smaller than the factories bushing. overall, wasn't that hard, nor expensive.

Nice looking installation! I see you added some reenforcement, also.
When you get the arms installed and get a chance to try it out, please let us know how the arms work.

Jim,
I tested the arms and no binding. I probably ran the arms 18" of travel, to test for any binding and seems to work. I also made a home made Watts Linkage and no binding on that as well. I will post some pix of the arms/ Watts working.
