The GM Assembly Plant in Doraville (north of Atlanta) Georgia closed in 2008. My '65 Impala was built there. Here are a few pictures I found on the web. If anyone has others (especially mid-60s era) I sure would like to get copies.

Thanks for posting those! Our 69 Impala SS427 was built there as well. Would be cool to have a pic of your 65 in front of it.

It was a BOP plant in its last years. Tom Trainor, CCI tech for many years, worked there. Tom passed a few years ago but I bet he had a collection of stuff from Doraville.

Yes, I remember when I was younger this facility being called the "BOP Plant". I've lived four miles from Doraville for most of my life, but regrettably never took the opportunity to tour the plant in all those years. I understand the property is still owned by GM - I wonder if they would allow a few of us in for a photo shoot?

Is the Atlanta Plant still standing? I toured the Baltimore plant when I was a teenager ('68). Now it is a plowed over lot, just off Rte. 95 N, shortly after you exit the Harbor Tunnel.

The plant buildings are still there, at least for now. I'd like to see about getting in for some pictures before they are gone.

So back in March I wrote a letter to the nice folks at GM in Detroit, asking if there was any way they would allow me on the site at Doraville long enough to take a couple of pictures of my car in front of the main building.

Two weeks ago, I heard back, and they said OK. This morning we were out there just as the sun came up, and we got a few photos. We shot film, but I took the one below on my phone.

I'll post more if the film shots come out OK.

I lived in Atlanta for ten years and I remember it was big news when the plant closed. Very cool pictures.

That's awesome. Did someone meet you there from GM to let you in?

The real-estate manager in Detroit gave me the name of a local contact, and three GM guys met us when we showed up in Doraville yesterday morning. They were very interested in the Impala, and spent a lot of time talking to us. All three were former plant employees who now provide site security. None were old enough to have worked there in '65, unfortunately.

Big difference in the film shot! Great photo. I wouldn't mind doing the same here at the St. Louis plant, but I probably would get stabbed, shot or certainly mugged and the car stolen!

On Union Blvd., 3901 Union Blvd. to be exact. To my surprise, it has been totally renovated into an industrial park under one roof. 2.2 million square feet.

My dad may have bolted something on that car. :D

That was an awesome building to see from the inside when it was all running... I got a full day tour one time with my dad when I was in high school.
