Does the 65 two door hard top have a center mounted interior dome light or just the ones on the right and left sail panels of the quarters? Mine has been apart for too long to remember and I'm ordering new wire harnesses.

Mine (with bucket seats) has a courtesy light at the rear of the console. I don't think my earlier car (bench seat) had one in the center.

No, I don't have the assembly manual. Is that something that can be down loaded from a site and printed? My car is a bench seat car, I was pretty sure I just had the lights in the sail panels.

There is a bracket dead center of my roof panel where a center dome light can be mounted. It's already drilled and everything to mount the housing. The wires run right past it and lead to the right side sail panel light. Wasn't sure if I may have pulled it out not paying attention when I disassembled the car.

The Assembly Manual is right here on this forum - in the Reference Materials area. It would do you good to look through that information while you are reassembling your car. There is information there that will help you immensely!
and, yes, you can download it and print it out. Just make sure you have plenty of paper!

My headliner is long gone. It pretty much fell apart one day when I was cleaning the inside of the car. The car was originally from AZ and everything on the car that wasn't made of steel or glass, was pretty much garbage. The weather stripping on the car snapped like twigs when I removed it and the seat covers were actually brittle feeling. That AZ heat does a number.

To answer the question, the sail panels is the correct location for the dome lights on a 65. As noted in earlier posts, there is also a light in the back of the console, and factory under dash lights as well.
I have never seen a 65 with a ceiling mounted center dome light from the factory.

These are the ones that go in the sail panels on the coupes:
These are the ones used on the sport sedans:
You can see them here: >>Impala Dome Lamps<<
Courtesy light lenses for the back of the console can be seen here: >>Imapal SS Console Parts<<
If you don't feel like printing out an entire assembly manual, you can just purchase a copy here: >>Chevy Service and Assembly Manuals<<
Thanks!
