Well, I made a promise to myself to get my 59 Impala on the road this summer... I had the engine/trans rebuilt in 2000 and while that was being done I had the bumpers & rear roof vent rechromed. Installed the engine and trans when they were done in 2000 but never installed the bumpers... I also had to fix the front valance panels. I had purchased an interior kit froms C.A.R.S in 2002 which is still in boxes (i hope they are still ok) I just have to get my butt in gear and get this done. Just wanted to post this to get myself motivated.... Thanks Dave

Well, get your damned butt off the sofa and bring that finer piece of metal back on the road. Don´t you think, she wants to sniff some fresh summer breeze? :-)
That enough?

Hi Dave,
Even if it's not much, just try & do a little something to it everyday. Once you keep the ball rolling the motivation & progress will take care of itself. Good luck!

You want motivation???
Be thankful you bought the parts 12 years ago - because you should see how expensive they have become......
OR
You can let Jens read this post and he will tell you he can do all that work in 2 weeks for ya!

Hi Dave!!
I encourage you to go ahead on that process..My case is similar to yours,I kept buying parts for years, little by little:I rebuilt the engine first then suspension steering, bodywork, interio r...during all this time (I started in 1992)internet and Ebay appeared on the scene and made things easier.I started buying some NOS or used in good condtion parts, specially those which are not reproduced.I have just finished the car, after 20 years.Of course I have not been working on he car every day, just as my time and money allowed me so but I feel very proud about all these years:I've learnt English, travelled to USA several times, meet very interesting people, learnt the basic about mechanics...so I enjoyed very much all the process, not only the car as a main goal.In my opinion this is the key.
Additionally, you should take into account that everythig is much easier for you than for me since I live in Spain and you in the States so: Dont't have to pay expensive transport, customs duties, have lost parts, can locate some wreckyards with old cars etc,etc...
I hope all this helps you to go ahead!!Good luck!!

Dave,
Quit whining and being lazy. If you're not going use your parts or build you '59 you might as well give it to someone who will. Come on, really......

When I've gotten stuck in the past, I've gotten out of it by finding some small piece that needed to be restored, and wire-brushing it, priming it and painting it. The result always makes me so proud I can jump back in with little procrastination.

I agree w/ Jens. start small and the juices will flow. I waited 30 years to get going and am only 2 months away from the golden ring. It feels real good.

Dave,
Post some pictures of where you're at now, do at least little something periodically and we'll ask to see some more pictures showing your progress later. Hang in there and keep going!

OK, my '58 Delray has been on the slow-track as well, getting bursts of motivation followed by bursts of procrastination . However, now the further along I get the more I can see there is light at the end of the tunnel - and it's exciting! As Jens & Jim mentioned, even getting out there and spinning wrenches for an hour is another step towards the brass ring. So, get off your can and get to work!

JUST GET STARTED, PICK A SPOT AND GO FROM THERE!
I did the same thing with 2 59`s,started on both, then got caught up in other cars, and work, then i was involved in 2 rear end accidents, (none of my fault, just life in los angeles)
anyway, years later i have limited mobility on my right side,,,, those cars will sit, or be sold, cause now on disablty, i can`t afford to build them.
i was at the top of my field at work, now i went from hero to zero in a few years, so build them cars , you never know what can happen to you
i`m only 53 , the 1st accident was `02, build them while your healthy
