For an '81 C2500 Custom Deluxe 3+3 4-door LWB, are doors same as '81 Suburban? Need door panels, weatherstrip, window channel, step plates! No one lists this truck in catalogs. Thanks!

Hey Tom, where are you located? Have you tried the local wrecking yards & "pick a part" yards for parts? I restored a '81 single cab C/10 a year ago and found used door panels that I just re-dyed, came out great! The yards are full of our trucks right now from the "cash for clunkers" program a few years ago. I also found all the trim parts that my "stripper" truck never came with for me to "upgrade" the inside a little. Also, did you call LMC truck or Brothers in southern California? They have a ton of knowlage as to our trucks...

Thanks for your quick reply. Stuck in a wheelchair & walker, got T-boned in December in a VW Bug I'd just bought, so can't get out to yards for now. LMC told me they just take orders, don't have anyone that knows about trucks - called 2X. I'm in El Paso, lead a non-profit, and want to use this truck with a 24-foot box trailer as a promo vehicle, with continuous graphics on them. I figured the doors might be same as a Suburban but want to verify before ordering trim. Want to stay faithful to OEM except for chrome and graphics.

Welcome to the site.
Yes, practically all the parts are interchangeble with subs and trucks. That is one big truck!! Do you have any pictures of it?

Yep, it's big. Took it to body shop this a.m. for complete paint including inner doors & jambs, chrome grill & front bumper, replace delaminated windshield & seal, rhino-line the bed. Waiting on a Leer 122 cap, ordered it last week. Need to find wheels/tires & would like to use late-model OEM polished alloys but don't know if offset is OK. Do you know? Also, it came with 9.5 X 16.5s that we're ready to sell, tires are practically new. I have a picture but can't figure out how to attach it.

to post pics, you have to use a host site like photobucket, facebook, something like that.
if photobucket, just hover mouse over the thumbnail pic and a menu pops up, copy the IMG code and directly past it into the message box here...
if using facebook or somewhere else, you have to start here and hit "reply" at the bottom right of the post so that your reply box has full menu toolbar(you cant use the quick reply)
go to the website of the pic you want to post, right click on the pic, select "copy image location".
come back to this site and select the "image" button, and a box pops up that says "Enter URL to Image",
right click on the highlighted HTTPS: and past the image location there.
hit preview to see if you image took ok...
Its a matter of preference, but I like photobucket, its so much easier... but you need to know both ways if there is something off the web that you need to use, like an example of a wheel from a wheel shop,
But be ADVISED, it could be considered copyright infringement if you claim it as your own...
but I sorta look at it like this, if I go to american racing's site, copy and post a wheel here,
and say "this is the wheel I like" if feel I'm providing a free advertising service to them, on subject matter that is already available to the public
Words are a lot like toothpaste... Once its out of the tube,
there's no getting it back in... |
